Kershaw/ZT SpeedSafe Failures?

I've had two torsion bars snap on me. One in a ZT 0770 and another in a ZT 0350. Easy fix. Fill out an online form with ZT and in about a week you'll get a replacement torsion bar and they're very easy to install.

My 0566 snapped after about a year. I have several kershaws and ZT 's and it's the only one I've broke. Went online and submitted the form for parts. Had 2 replacements within a week. Easy fix and it's still one of my favorite knives. There is no way I would ever let the fear of a spring breaking deter me from owning some great knives when it's so easily fixed.

I have four speed-safe opening knives and never had an issue with any of them. I'm also one of those guys that plays with his knives incessantly. Still no problems.

If you think about how many speedsafe knives sold vs. how many failures you hear about I think the percentage of failures is quite low.

To any worried about torsion bar failure know that it cannot be the norm and if you get one KAI will take care of it.

Anything, specially mechanical, is open to failure. It's whether you can fix the issue readily. For my two SpeedSafe folders in question I have backup torsion bars so if it does happen again I can fix it pronto.

I have a Whirlwind that I have had for many years and was my EDC for a few years. Opened it hundreds of times, probably 1,000+. I own a Rake that has also been opened hundreds of times, leek also. I have never had a torsion bar fail, yet all I read is people having them fail within minutes of getting a SpeedSafe knife.

Seriously, how prevalent is this, or is it another example of the internet copy machine?

I want to add that I bought my Dad a Scallion about ten years ago.....Old man sits in his chair and snaps it open like people chew their nails. Drives my Mom nuts. Still works flawlessly.

I holeheartedly agree. I own quite a few knives with many different opening mechanisms, both full autos, OTFs and assisted openers of various brands. I have yet to have a single one brake on me.

My oldest speedsafe knives are the orignal Leek 1606 and the Chive and God knows how many times I opened and closed them during the years, countless.

What on earth do people do to make them fail?
