It may physically open as fast, but time is still lost in resetting your hand after opening. AO, your thumb naturally flicks into position after the blade, and you are ready to go faster. Not to mention things like glovework doesn't require you to stick to the blade the whole time; tap it out without worry. As for the other points -
1) People actually have a problem closing an AO blade? Frankly, if it is that hard to close, i would imagine the knife is broken.
2) Springs break, and bearings gum up. Even the most basic of manual systems can be broken in many ways..
And maybe i am reading it wrong, but you sure seem unhappy with the knife after messing it it (and have to tinker more to get it back to good again)....
I've carried my 0777 probably 75% of the time since I bought it last October and I have yet to have to take it apart to clean anything out of the bearings. Same with my TiLT that has also seen frequent carry since early this year. I've not known a good manual knife that was overly prone to failure...
As for the 0770 I feel like you aren't reading what I'm saying at all...? I've said this a couple times now but I'll say it again. I bought the knife not because it was a/o but because I am really fond of the design. I knew that when I took the assist out it wouldn't flip worth anything because it was initially designed as an A/O. It will literally take me 5 minutes to tweak it and get it flipping faster than it did as an A/O and I won't have to jam my finger on the flipper to trigger the assist and I won't have to overcome the spring to close it and nothing on the knife will ever break. It's win/win/win. Plus, I enjoy taking things apart and customizing them so that's another win.
