Hi guys,

I'm just curious to know if anybody here in Canada has ordered knives online from KershawGuy.com down in the United States. He seems to have a stellar reputation and an almost-direct line to the factory in Oregon, and has a great selection and good prices on Zero Tolerance and Kershaw knives. And he also sells boxless blems (very very minor, typically almost unnoticeable) of those knives at super prices ...

And many of the regular models are also available in Damascus steel, at a very modest upgrade in price.

Their shipping policy is a bit confusing though ... a large banner declares Free Shipping on all orders, but in small print (in the corner) it states No International Orders.

That's fine, but it's impossible to tell if they ship "regular rate" (via simple USPS) to The Great White North. I emailed to ask about that policy on Saturday night, but obviously won't have a response for a while.

USPS for regular knives (no cool automatics) is (and has always been) so simple and transparent and cheap and totally legal ... and FFS our armed forces fought alongside their armed forces in Afghanistan for about a decade.

Armed forces = Warriors.

Hi Scurvy,

I know that ... and I hope that he's enjoying Sunday, as I am ... and I'm just being super-curious, and stupidly excited/impatient. Of course I'm totally fine with waiting until "the next business day".

But ... I get your point.

He most likely does not ship out of the country as there is often increased liability, much more confusion in legality, and more people handling a package with more things to go wrong. That policy is not uncommon with knives, but since you are in Canada I think you sending him an email was a good call as he may be willing to work with you since shipping to Canada doesn't have quite the risks of elsewhere. I've purchased multiple times from him and he's a great guy to do business with, very fair, and has good communication, so hopefully you and him will be able to work something out!

There are no legal or moral reasons for what you're suggesting, but his commercial arrangement with the Kershaw/ZT folks might preclude his selling online to Canada, for reasons that are totally business-based ... and which I understand completely.

Now, that is impressive ... I just received a brief email from Dave ... confirming the "no sales to Canada" policy ...

Maybe he had an issue with Shania Twain? I thought that she was awesome.

I've read somewhere that he has had troubles with international buyers opening a case with PayPal when they don't receive their knife because they're seized by customs. I think he just doesn't want to deal with the hassle of shipping internationally.

Nope, that does not appear to be the case. I politely asked "Why no shipping to Canada" ... all ready to be pissed-off and offended on idealogical and/or DHS and/or Corporate grounds ... and he replied almost immediately (late on a Sunday night) that it was simply too much of a PITA to stand in a line at the Post Office ... and filling-out customs stickers. Time is money ... which makes sense to me:)

Awesome service ...

Another suggestion is to get it mailed to another forum member in the US and get them to relay it to you over the boarder. There are a few Gold Members here that will do that for you. You would have to work out the extra mailing costs with them.

Dave also prides himself on being among the fastest guns in the West when it comes to shipping. I'm sure the fact that customs can and does delay shipments rankles him. One way or the other, international shipping is a PITA on both ends. That's why I generally tend to avoid it in my transactions as well.

I use to buy knives from Dave, a few years back when he still shipped to Canada. What I understand is he does not want the hassle now but he is still willing to ship to whomever - state side for shipping to Canada.
