Kershaws Anonymous

Chuck whatever you do DON'T look at the R.A.M., or a Schallot in S110v steel, or a Composite Jyd, or .................... (Actually do check out the R.A.M. its the king of the flippers imo.)
Oh heck the more you look at Kershaws the more you'll want to buy them.
Oh yeah stay away from the ZT knives also. You'll never be the same again !!
It's an addiction alright.
The only cure is a good dose of Kershaw metal.

ooooo, the RAM looks nice! How did I miss that!? Guess I'll add that to the list.

Hawk Lock? `sup wit dat?

Yeah the addiction is pretty bad, but when you spend 40-50$ and get 100$ knives its not hard to see why. I like to buy things that give me double what I paid for. There are a lot of things in life that you buy and only get half of what you pay for.

I will try and explain the hawk lock, I could draw it out but I don't have a scanner or access to a digital camera right now. Basically theres is a circular trench in one of the handle scales, the one on the side of the release, and two pins on the blade fit in this trench, one we will say is at 0 degrees and the other one is at 180 degrees on the blade. one acts as a detent and the other is what locks the blade in place. The hawk lock button controls the catching of these pins. The thing that actually does the stopping/catching of these pins has a V shape to it so the blade is unable to move up or down unless the V is retracting by pulling down on the release.

 I hope that made sense, I didn't really know how it worked until I took it apart.

Thanks for the explanation and the vid. Hows the lockup? Stronger, weaker or the same as say the Benchmade Axis lock?

Well I never got around to trying out an axis lock, so I can describe, but not compare, my RAM's lock up. If I push extremely hard downwards I can get about 1mm of vertical blade play and the stop pin stops and blade play going upward. If I add a good size of amount I think I can get 1mm of horizontal blade play. So I give lock up 9/10. Almost any folder, with enough pressure applied will show blade play. If you tighten the pivot to eliminate all blade play then the knife becomes difficult to open, but the RAM is good for having a solid look up plus a very easy and quick flipper.

hi my name is matt. i'm addicted to kershaws. and as far as I am aware there is a course, and you can run it, but it starts to look familiar after a while :D ;) :) and it never ends

You have to becareful around leeks and chives, they are a gateway drug that leads to harder ones like the titanium JYDII or some ZTs, but don't worry I have heard of a lot of people who have overcome this addiction like...... errr..... uhhh.... Amy whinehouse, she took rehab for her kershaw addiction.

AARRRRGHHH!!!! There is no cure!

I just bought the OD-1 and the 2445STX "Barrage". :D

Next up, an all-flat-black Leek (very slick!) and the Skyline... w000t!
