I recently switched from buying Spydies to Kershaw and ZT's.

Does anyone else hate the style of clip that on the JYD II as much as I do ?? Why do

they keep using it ?

I got a Rake in trade today and suprise suprise it has a clip just like my Zts. I really Like

the ZT clip.

It would be great if Thomas could chime in on this :D

i dont have one so i cant speak from personal experience but i dont really mind it.

it is very big but it looks like it rides pretty well

I especially like the originals...

I think it looks stupid and is a big reason why I haven't purchased a JYDii yet.

The ZT clip is far superior IMO. The bigger clip seems like it belongs on those $5 chinese blades with huge curves and mall ninja stuff.

I think the JYD needs to be updated with one of those ZT clips aswell... Perhaps another limited edition run with S35VN or sumfing?

When you look at the clips on these knives you need to remember that it is important for the manufacturer to respect the knifemaker/designer's vision. Tim designed the clip that way, check out the JYD customs and protos on his site.

The same applies to the various Ken Onion designs that people seem to have clip issues with.

We should applaud Kershaw for giving their designers the artistic freedom to design something different.
Of course we are all entitled to our own opinions, and if you don't like the clips, fortunately it is not very difficult to change them.

Well said! It would be a boring world if everything was the same.:D

+1 That has also been a Kershaw strong suit.... the fact that they don't dilute the designer's vision with off the shelf parts. If a designer feels that his clip (tasteful or not) is a necessary part of the design and Kershaw has the ability to make the clip........ they usually do. Simple as that.

Also, please note that this topic has been beath to death in General/The old Kershaw Sub-forum/and pretty much everywhere else. If you don't like the size of the clip, grind it down or replace it with a custom clip. I simply hit mine with the belt grinder and a 60 grit belt to tone down the pointed parts, then finished it out by hand. It took all of about 20 minutes. It is also noteworthy that while I did tone the clip down the general shape remains intact b/c it is one of the most comfortable clips to grip..... Kinda makes you think Tim knew what he was doing when he designed that one ;)

I don't mind the unusual clips so much i just wish all models came with the tip up carry option. I own 11 Kershaw/ZTs but I've passed on a few model because i couldn't carry them tip up.I have almost bought a JYD II a few times but the lack of tip up carry is a turnoff.
Still i'll probably buy a JYDII sometime and try to mod it or get some one else to mod it for tip up carry.

if you want a wire clip get some small self tapping screws and a paperclip and have at it.

Ha! Just joking. I never owned a knife with a wire clip, are they strong?

Buy a Spydie with a wire clip and find out how strong a wire clip is. I think that Sal and

his crew know what their doing after years of making knives ;)

My two cents: Kershaw is staying true to KO's original designs. Also, I had a wire clip spydie and carried it for years. I thought it sucked. Sure it looks low profile, but things would catch it in between the wires and it was eventually bent beyond repair when I snagged it in the woods on something. I like some of the spydie designs that come with the wire clip but if I get one that'll be the first thing to go.

And of course other designers like Tim Galyean.

Maybe I'm a nerd, but I like the flashy clips, like on the JYDII, Offset and Tyrade. I guess I'm sort of a show-off, as well, as I LIKE it when folks ask me about "What's that clipped to you pocket?"

If Tim loved the JYD clip so much why didn't he use it on his own "Pro Series"?

Jonnymac44's photo.
Now that's a nice clip.
And look it also can be tip up.

New style composite blade JYD2 but same old tip down only giant clip.
Any chance of a nice slim understated clip to go along with the new blade?

Love Kershaw and all of their clips, but this one.
Tyrade/Storm clip no problems.

I like the JYDII clip. Sure, it looks a little flashy, but carries well and doesn't tear up your pocket.
