If you're innocently opening a package in the parking lot with your pocketknife, someone who notices you, and who thinks all knives are bad, could drop a dime on you easily. Then you'll find yourself having to explain your actions to your local police officer, who is responding to call about a citizen with a knife. Not a pleasant situation. I simply avoid using such tools in public areas. .

"yeah, I was cutting this box with this knife"

I know what you're saying, but I for one would LIKE the cops to show up, because they should have more sense than the dime dropper, and might also lecture said individual on not being an idiot and calling 911 for false reasons, They could even be ticketed, but most likely just told that I am well within my rights- hence one or more sheeple might become less ignorant.

I know the name calling isnt malicious, but I just recognized it as a nervous reaction to unfamiliar stimuli-(since they are that ignorant) and it made me frustrated to see that type of reaction. I mean, how do these people prepare food at home without knives? Would they call the cops from a restaurant and say, "I just saw a big, swarthy man with a huge knife, come quick!" the cops could come and question the chef next.

Mr. Atwood, That is just way  too cool  to put into words. Are you like some kind of genius or something? Be honest... :)

Genius I could never claim......but obsessed, YES! :D

My dad started out in the tool-and-die trade. I know genius -- or at least smarts -- when I see it.

You are obsessed with your work just as we are with your talent and with the wonderful products you make.

I bet you'd qualify to have a forum of your very own here. The Peter Atwood Prybaby and Pocket Tools Forum. I'd sure join up.

What about even just being able to accomplish your daily tasks in a reasonable way?

Paul

That has nothing to do with it. "Legal liability" does.

Person A displays a knife in an office while opening a package and later goes on a killing spree with that knife. The survivors can and will file a lawsuit against the owners of that business, saying the owners SHOULD have known something would go wrong.

The survivors will be paraded in court, win the sympathy of the jury, and the owners will be socked with heavy damages. The firm may even go out of business.

Most business, including mine, have clauses in their employment contracts stating you are FORBIDDEN to carry any weapons of any sort on your person, store them in your desk, or have them in your car. Ridiculous, but that way the business is covered.

Should Person A decide to obey the law and later die because he lacked a knife to remedy a situation, Person A simply becomes one more statistic. Too bad. S**t happens. No one will sweat it besides his family.

Should Person A disobey the law and later commit a crime with such a "weapon," the owners are covered because their lawyers can say the perpetrator was not supposed to have that weapon to begin with and was already in violation of the law.

We must remember this: The sheeple rule. I don't necessarily care what they think, but these days someone who is alarmed by what they see won't hesitate to call the police on their cell phone. If you're innocently opening a package in the parking lot with your pocketknife, someone who notices you, and who thinks all knives are bad, could drop a dime on you easily. Would they actually respond to a call about a citizen WITH a knife???
Are knives illeagle in your town???
If not, it would be interesting to see what he the police would say to someone for calling in a false call.
If citizens are afrad to exercise their freedoms, then they might as well not have them, and in a very real since, are not citizens anymore...

Yes. They have to. That's their job. And freedoms are being restricted more and more.

We can't mention, discuss, or joke about terrorism or terrorists or bombs or airplane crashes in airports.

Try it and see how quickly you get hauled off in handcuffs.

Your freedom of speech ends the moment you enter airport property.
