Keyring Folders: The Last Resort.

Seen a few of these types of knives on the forum recently and have been carrying this one on my keyring for the past five years. I consider it a last resort for when I forget my Vic farmer or one or other of my smaller folders. I expect there may have been similar threads posted on the subject but I would be interested to see what folders you may be carrying with your keys.

I will take pictures later for this thread.
I rarely keep my keys on me, so I always carry a small "tool keyring" with a SAK Classic or Ambassador (and a AAA flashlight and a USB memory). Works fine for me :)

Big, heavy key rings drive me bonkers, so I carry a separate ring for tools and toys. This Cold Steel Micro Recon 1 is my daily EDC on that ring, and is my go-to blade for the majority of my needs. Though its only 1 ounce with a 2" AUS8A blade, its a serious blade with Cold Steel's Tri-ad lock and not a mere toy. Its awesome. This is an older pic. The teflon coating comes of quickly with use and from getting banged up in the pocket.

Traditional knives only, please.

I'm sorry, Mr. Peregrin. Being a clipless lockback I would have not thought this inappropriate, but I hear you. You're right. Thanks.

Apart from the sin of mentioning a non trad knife here, i am with you, the clue is in the name KEY ring , i bought an SAK Rally to hang on my key ring but like you it drove me nuts, i clip my keys to a belt loop as i do not like even my keys in my pants pocket and do not get me started on the mini torch, pry bar and all the other gewgaws that the EDC crowd would have us loaded down with.

Victorinox classic is my go-to keychain knife/tool. The SD tip handles most small phillips screws, and the scissors handle stray mustache and beard hairs excellently. The tiny knife blade opens mail, UPS/FEDEX boxes, plastic wrap on cartons of water, twine, and much more. Keychain knives are like a derringer; may be tiny, but they're no joke.

I like that sheath!

I have a SAK rambler, customized with brass scales instead of cellidor - in with my keys for several years, the brass looks good scratched with wear. Having scissors and a caplifter leaves me free to have a traditional slipjoint in my watch pocket:

fatcorgi, Carl's old H&R is looking great.

All I have on my keys is the fat little Alox Minichamp. I keep my keys in my bag so I don't mind the heft, and I like having all the little implements even if I could just get along with a Classic. I want to get a red alox version before they are discontinued (which I have heard rumored to be soon.)

Thanks. I had one of the Victorinox black ones, but it was fake leather and cracked up after a while. Maybe it was a knock off, I don't know, but it seemed to be made out of black composition instead of leather. But I decide I wanted a real leather one, so I had some scraps around from another project, and wet formed it and stitched it up. I made it to swallow the whole knife right up to the keyring, so it would be more secure. I had a classic fall out of the Victorinox/fake one. This one you have to grab the keyring and pull it out. If the sheath gets too loose, I just soak it in hot water and then press it semi dry between two books and let sit over night. In the boring it's tight as new. But most important is I wanted that depth.

Aw, now I feel a tiny bit nostalgic. That knife rode a long way over the years, in my jeans pocket. I'm sooo happy it's being carried and cared for!:thumbup:

I also have one of the synthetic ones from Victorinox and they're worthless. They don't last a week for me. I think these leather sheaths are discontinued. They're made in China but they're actually pretty nice. They're not indestructible but they're much higher quality. If you message your address to me, I'll send you one. Not to replace the one you made, of course.

I carry a blue Vic Manager on my keys for the same reason. The tools are the same as the Rambler, ie it has the bottle opener with the phillips screwdriver, but it has a pen in place of the toothpick. I don't always carry a pen and almost never need the toothpick so it works out better for me. I attached it with a Nite Ize S Biner - size #0 so that I can easily remove it from my keys and use it as a pen. Another plus for the Manager and Rambler is that the pen blade has been moved to the opposite side from where it is in the Classic. This way, the pen blade opens away from your keys so you can hold onto them as a handle while using the blade.

Like the look of these sheaths. Might have to try and get hold of one of these Chinese leather ones for my classic, I'd be more likely to carry it then. Either that or get Mrs Blade to make me one like Jacks. Thanks all for your posts.

I'd say save your money. Just take a classic to a good leather guy and have a sheath mad from some good heavy belt grade leather. Something that will last for years, instead of months. Stitched with some good waxed linen or nylon thread, you'll be way ahead of the game.

My leather Victorinox sheath has lasted several years so far. But they're discontinued.
