Khuk vs. all else

I'm a relatively new Khukuri convert, and I'm pleased with my two H.I Khukuris. With your khuk and the wee karda that may come with it there will be very few cutting jobs that you won't be able to tackle.

Although I like my khukuri, and although I'd agree that is safer than a hatchet for general chopping because of the longer blade....I find that a hatchet is safer for the way that I like to split sticks of firewood. I often lay the sticks flat and hold one end with my left hand while I drive my hatchet blade into the stick partway along it, or at the opposite end to the one I'm holding. The extra blade length, and the curve of the khukuri, make chopping this way difficult and hazardous.

But if I had to pick just one tool for cutting and light chopping duties while hunting or hiking, I wouldn't hesitate in choosing one of my lighter khukuris. Good choice.

I also like my ka-bar khuk a lot, it moved up to become the chopper in my nessmuk trio
during my last vacation back home, replacing my ranger RD9 recurve.
