That's a model I'd like to see. My 20" Kobra comes close, maybe an 18" sirupate? I thought about a 15",but it seems to short to be effective.
You're the only one who can decide that. A long khukri is great for reach but that's a moot point if you can't easily handle the extra heft. If you are more comfortable and competent with a shorter & lighter khukri, then that's your best bet for a self defense khukri.
I decided in 2007 I had found my perfect style of khukri when I got my 21.5" Chitlangi on a D.O.D. Before long, I emailed Ms Yangdu and inquired about a 25" Chitlangi and sure enough she had one. It actually measured at 26" on the dot.
Then after a few months of testing them and comparing them, I came to my theory of a modified 23" one as being my ideal khukri for WW3, zombie outbreaks, or alien invasions.
Too long a khukri results in it being relegated primarily for battle. Too short and it's better used as a tool, mostly.
What I found:
26" Chitlangi: big, long, and cuts like a guillotine. BUT it's a bit cumbersome and clumsy in thick brush. Being hit by it though would really ruin your day. It's slightly heavier than a Sirupati in the same size class (I have a 25" Sirupati by Vim) but the striking & cleaving power is significantly more powerful. Bura made it and it took an almost supernatural edge.
21.5" Chitlangi: my favorite blade of
any in my collection and I literally have hundreds of sharp pointy objects. It's very quick, very agile, and the handle feels like it was custom-made for my hand. It also took a very keen edge. It doesn't have the WHOOOMP of the big chitlangi, but it makes up for it with better velocity and agility. Sher made it and it's the only thing I've ever bought which had sentimental value to me the very first time I held it in my hands. I feel like it was intended for me somehow; like I was reunited with it instead of sharking it on an internet forum.
So I compared the two and reckoned a 23" would have better reach than a 21.5" but would not be as cumbersome and heavy as a 26". The best of both worlds maybe? We'll see. Even I'm wrong, it's still going to be a unique chitlangi and I'll love it.
