Am building a Khukri sheath for someone and thought that you guys would like to follow along with the build.
The sheath was cut from 10-12oz (More like 12-14oz) saddle skirting. The welt is 2 layers, the first layer was about 14oz and the second layer was closer to 8oz. The welt is just thinner then the thickest part of the spine. I'm using Fiebings Pro Oil Dye Black to color it. All hardware is Nickel or stainless.
Here we have all of the pieces cut out, colored and wet formed. Essentially, I'm ready for assembly:
**Update 1**
I've done some edging and marking that needs doing before I glue and stitch the larger D-ring in place. Also, you can see the holes for the Chicago screws that will hold the keeper straps in place. Everything on this sheath that can be user adjustable/replaceable is.
A close up shot showing the edging and where the large D-ring is going
Here I've punched the holes for the snaps (bottom piece of leather) and counter sunk them. This helps things lay better and reduces the amount of metal on metal contact.
Counter sunk area dyed black.
**Update 2**
I forgot to get pictures while I was fitting and gluing the welt and loops. But I did manage to get pictures after stitching up the sheath:
I've cleaned up the edges, rounded the corners, colored and burnished the edges. Built the Keeper straps and test fitted a 1" wide dangler loop.
**Update 3**
The sheath is now finished. All the leather pieces have 2 to 4 coats of leather dressing on them. Once it was finished, I let it dry, buffed it up and took pictures. After taking the pictures, I wrapped up the knife and sheath and mailed them home. Here are the pictures of the finished sheath with it's Khukri:
I hope you all enjoyed following along with this build. If you have any questions, let me know. Thanks for looking!
