Khukri sheath W.I.P. - Sheath finished, OP udated

Thanks guys, I'm glad you all like it. Am looking forward to Bill getting his sheath.

Yep, I've been putting the new pictures in the first post. That way people don't have to scroll through a bunch of posts to find them.

Some sheaths that I make get tooled. Bill and I didn't talk tooling and even though a tooled border would have looked fine on this sheath, I'm glad it didn't happen. If you look closely at the following two pictures you'll notice some fat marks/wrinkles. They are very light and just below the snaps. Leather with character is something that I love to use. Am building a belt and some machete sheaths. One of the sheaths and my belt have parts of the brand visible. Here's the pictures that show case the fat mark:

Great looking sheath.

You just hit 7000 posts! You're an HI "old-timer" that we can talk to when we want to know about the "good old days". Glad to see that you're still active at the HI forum.

Thanks Steve! I thought I was still a few posts away from 7000, crazy! In forum life, I probably am an 'old-timer'. . . Hopefully that means that I have something to contribute to the forums aside from a bunch of Hot Air. ;)

Well hot air can be a nice thing if the day is chilly I reckon.

I do honestly think you got a little more going for ya than hot air alone though.

You leatherbenders must have real sensitive vision. I looked and looked and I don't see not fat mark wrinkles.
I know Pugs has a very discriminating eye for his leather too.

He he he.

Yep, I guess we see/notice more then others. I look at some of my sheaths and see mostly flaws. This sheath has an obvious wrinkle in it: http://hjeleather.kydance.net/for-sale/fs_10-14-14/IMG_9128_resize.JPG

These two sheaths have slight wrinkles/fat marks in them: http://hjeleather.kydance.net/for-sale/fs_10-14-14/IMG_9140_resize.JPG

Am thinking of building a Khukri sheath in Natural Tan, double stitched with a tooled border like this sheath:

Whatcha think of that look for a Khukri sheath?

I think it would look great myself. I like natural tan a lot.

I did see the marks in the last links. I don't find them unattractive at all, kind of character marks. I like em.

It might not be a leatherbender thing either. I know when I do something I see every flaw and bad thing.

Usually not really a bad thing, just something you wish was a little better.

In your case you can't be responsible for the cows diet ya know. Certainly not worthy of the anxiety and curling up on the kitchen floor in a fetal position sucking ones thumb. I've been there.

If a guy wants flawless almost gotta go synthetic, kydex (unless I do it, I burn stuff up really good).

Wood like leather quite often just isn't perfect which is what wood guys really like about it.

I think it's a thing with any one who builds an item. You see the good and the bad in it. . .

Some people ask for plain leather or as flawless as possible. Others ask for leather with character. I tend to cater more to the "we like Character" crowd. Am glad you like the Character also.

The Natural Tan leather I used in the sheath shown, is the same leather used in the two pouch sheaths above it. I just left the tooled sheath out in the sun for a few hours each day to naturally darken it. Am doing that with a belt right now. The color is naturally very pale. To me, the sun kissed tan looks much nicer. At least on some leather items.

I'm definitely in the Character crowd and I are one too. Put that in your journal for future reference.

I hope Pugs don't get all jealous and put a contract out on me for flirting with ya. I think he's an equal opportunity leatherbender too.

I think he is too.

Just got back from the Chiropractors office. After I rest up a bit, I'm going to work on some Natural Tan machete sheaths. . . But I'd rather be working on another Khukri sheath. LOL!

Would the 15" Sirupati look better in Natural, Brown, or Black leather with a tooled border? ?

To me that's like asking which one of your children do you like best. No good answer.

When I get some loot stored up I'll send ya a khukri for a suit.

Don't get too hooked on them Chiropractors, they are great for once in awhile when you move wrong and snap, something's wrong but for extended pain and suffering where they want to put you on the program, your doomed.

I been there in my youth, 3 times a week for months on end. He got a massage therapist in the office and asked if I wanted to have a session with her. One session and I didn't need him anymore.

That came out very nice man, and Bawanna your ok man I dont get jealous at all, we need some other benders here as well.

I'm anxiously waiting, kinda. It drives me nuts to know it's less than an hour away and I can't get to it. It should be here tomorrow. I wouldn't have went with tooling even if you would've mentioned. I'm a "less is more" kind of person. It turned out perfect, IMO.

My back and muscles are really bad at the moment, but on the mend. He and I both are hoping that we can cut the visits in half or less really soon.

Natural Tan is probably the way to go.

Thanks Pugs! :) you do good work too.

Bill, I know the feeling. My mail passes through 2 sorting centers in this state before getting to me. The second one takes the longest and it's just over an hour away. It bites knowing that your package is almost here, but it still has to wait and in some cases, wait and wait. Hoping you get it tomorrow! :)

Oh no! I reprinted this double spaced so I could easily read between the lines and well folks. I'm a goner for sure.

Soon and painful. Man, I'm on instant damage control here. Tomorrow I think I'll wear both right and left bawanna sheaths all day even though I only got one knife, it's the thought that counts right? Am I right?

I better send Pugs a peace offering, maybe one of them pipe tomahawks full of grass. Wait, probably not legal down yonder, hate that it's legal here to be honest, never tried the stuff. Maybe just some grass clippings when I mow?

Nice work Heber:thumbup: Between you and Pugs, it's easy to get a great, Western style sheath that'll beat the snot out of a traditional one for regular use. The Sarki Store is gone, but you guys are picking up the slack. Nice job!

Thanks JDK! I miss the Sarki shop, but am glad that we can still help out.

Wildmanh, I agree, I put myself firmly in the "character" crowd. That is why I love leather, it is a natural item that always has some unique markings. Usually when I look at a full hide, I am almost always drawn to the brand area or an area that the cow damaged in some way instead of the cleanest areas.

That sheath looks awesome, functional and classically clean lines. Thanks for the pictures. It is great to see what goes into making a sheath. It seems so simple, I guess that is how you know the person has talent. They make it look so easy when I know what sort of mess I have made trying it :D

I look forward to seeing more pictures of as someone put it "Wild" pants

Thanks for the compliments. I'm glad to see more people in to Character. I have a Side of Saddle Skirting that I've been cutting belts and machete sheaths from. A Pistol belt for a neighbor got most of the brands (this hide had 2 or 3 marks). My belt got a little bit. The hide still has some character in the form of wrinkles and maybe a few scratches. Can't wait to figure out a use for them

Building that sheath may have looked simple, but there's a lot of fitting work and trimming that happened behind the scenes. Lots of little details had to be just right and there was plenty of setup that I didn't show, to make it all go together so smoothly. I'm glad it looked simple. Wish had gone as smooth as it looked. LOL!

I'm sure Shavru meant it looked simple, knowing it isn't simple at all.

They say brain surgery is easy if you know what your doing. I don't think I'll be trying it anytime soon.
