Hi.
Having replacing and destroying most of the TOURIST type khukuris i have collected over many years the time came to replace the largest, which is this 28" whopper:
Due to the size and popularity with guests it will probably be kept and stored.
Along with the rest of the replica's taking the place of these "novelty" items i needed something as large but more dramatic and appealing when displayed.
I had seen the 18" WOODEN DRAGON KUKRI by KHHI and was really taken with the size and beauty of this piece so set about having one made to my specifications:
23.5" ENGRAVED BLADE (both sides)
6.5" CARVED HANDLE (rosewood)
FULL TANG HANDLE
WHITE METAL FIXTURES
Apart from the blade length required i left the rest of the blade dimensions to Mangaldhan, the kami who was commissioned with making the DRAGON khukuri.
Requested that i did not need the dap or accompanying knives as this would be just a stand alone showpiece.
So the kami mentioned set about forging this for me:
NOTE: have posted this video in my collection thread and is the same, so if you've seen that then please skip.
Then the knife was sent off to be carved and engraved.
Waited a few weeks(as expected) then the shipment details came through and the eagerness of actually seeing and being the owner of such a knife was getting closer, in other words i was excited like a big kid!!!
Anyway, it arrived:
BEAUTIFULLY CARVED FULL TANG HANDLE with WHITE METAL BOLSTER
WHITE METAL BUTT CAP and KEEPER all nicely polished
One side of the blade showing two dragons either side of a temple
There be a longer dragon here
The engraving is a superb testament to the artist involved
on display
er, it does look better when it is actually dark
Thanks for looking
