Khukuri Kristmas Party finalised

Nice one, DIJ.

Reminds me of when I changed jobs when I was living in Northern Virginia. I got a new job in Maryland, but had to stay at my apartment to finish out the lease. 5 months. One day I'm reading the paper while on the metro and see an contest (no prize) for who has the longest commute in the DC area.

I called the paper the next day and told 'em my story. 2 hours each way. Here's how it went:

  • Ride motorcycle to bus stop
  • Take bus to Metro
  • Take Metro to switching station (the full line from southern outskirts to central station)
  • Take Metro out from central station to the end of the northernmost line
  • Take bus from end of Metro line to nearest intersection
  • Walk from bus stop to work.

I left at 6 in the morning and got back at 6:30 at night. I didn't mind it actually because I got a lot of reading done - also played a few laptop-video-games and did many, many crossword puzzles....

It was the hardest on my family, though. :(

Anyway, I won their contest and they did an article on me (in the Washington Post). Clipped that one.....;)

Then I moved to within 1 mile from work and walked there every day for 2 months out of sheer delight.....

it looks like 5 or 6 people are definitely coming.
Maybe we can have a good old christmas party that night too.
i will do my best to make it easy and fun.
we wil have plenty of room and plenty of parking.
so bring anything you wanna bring.

26 hours, 43 minutes Total Est. Distance: 1650 miles even from Salinas CA.

I just got my new dream car after 13 years of driving my old Toyota truck, and it goes like hell and drives great, but at 20-22 MPG it would still be about $400 in gas round trip. BUT, I could bring most of my favorite khuks with me and not deal with the whole flying / airport thing. Plus I could stop in Las Vegas to visit my brother on the way over. Don't know, have to think about it, but I appreciate the invitation.

I've been hoping for something in the Nevada area. Couldn't we organize something near Uncle Bill? I mean, nothing that would put him or Yangdu out at all, but nearby so we could take them out to dinner or at least visit or something?

I could handle up to 1000 miles round trip no problem, but 3300 miles driving is pushing it for me. You guys are just going to have to stop being so selfish and move closer to me! ;)

Later,

Norm

Norm,

Are you bringing the family? So you have room for a passenger? I'll meet you in Vegas and finish the driving, but only if your wife is coming ;) You guys can just sit in the back and neck or whatever :p  :D
