Nice one, DIJ.
Reminds me of when I changed jobs when I was living in Northern Virginia. I got a new job in Maryland, but had to stay at my apartment to finish out the lease. 5 months. One day I'm reading the paper while on the metro and see an contest (no prize) for who has the longest commute in the DC area.
I called the paper the next day and told 'em my story. 2 hours each way. Here's how it went:

I called the paper the next day and told 'em my story. 2 hours each way. Here's how it went:
- Ride motorcycle to bus stop
- Take bus to Metro
- Take Metro to switching station (the full line from southern outskirts to central station)
- Take Metro out from central station to the end of the northernmost line
- Take bus from end of Metro line to nearest intersection
- Walk from bus stop to work.
I left at 6 in the morning and got back at 6:30 at night. I didn't mind it actually because I got a lot of reading done - also played a few laptop-video-games and did many, many crossword puzzles....
It was the hardest on my family, though.
Anyway, I won their contest and they did an article on me (in the Washington Post). Clipped that one.....
Then I moved to within 1 mile from work and walked there every day for 2 months out of sheer delight.....
