Heres a copy of an e-mail I recieved earlier today !!

"Hi folks,
I have had an interesting night, The police have just arrived with their tracker dogs to try to find a gentleman who broke in to the house to acquire my TV and VCR.
I woke at 00h30 to a noise of something falling I got up , grabbed the torch and the Khukri from my bedside table drawer and went to investigate.I was not sure if it was a cat or a buglar at that stage. I shone the torch on the diningroom table as I had had guests and had not cleared away the dishes . Out of the corner of my eye I saw the gentleman approaching with a knife in his raised right hand. I swung with the khukri and luckily for him, missed. He jumped back then came forward again saying, in Afrikaans, he was going to stab me . I kindly reversed the khukri and hit him on the left forearm. he grabbed the cloth from the tv table wrapped it around his left arm and again came forward. I hit him again with the back of the khukri but did not want to injure him to such a degree that he made an all out attack on me as he kept saying he was going to stab me dead. He then put the knife behind him and said he had a gun and asked me for the khukri or he would shoot me. I then suggested to him that he leave by the back door or I would have to chop him with the kukri. He backed to the door ,eventually managed to open it and ran off., with my cloth. It is amazing how clearly you think at a time like this as I was damn scared.
The police have come back and say they cannot pick up his trail with the dogs. I have had about 8 different policemen in the house and they are coming back in the morning with the fingerprint boys. The police have just returned my table cloth which they found down the road and the police van has driven off so now I must try to sleep but am a bit pumped up as I thought my last day had come when he came at me with the knife. Love to you all. Don."

I miss that chiruwa but I am sure glad I gave it to him now !!

I probably wouldn't have the same restraint that your friend had if someone were attacking me with a knife! Anyway, I'm glad he was able to fend off the intruder and was not hurt himself.

Too bad he didn't hit him on the forearm with a 25" AK; I guarantee you that one shot would have sufficed! :D

:) Good story and thanks.

Dunno if I would have thought of using the spine though. But it's probably good there was no blood shed.

Great story, Brendan.

Is he likely to get any grief for having the khuk in the first place?

To combat the problem, a South African entrepreneur invented a car protection system that shoots a large quanity of propane gas all around the automobile, and then ignites it, surely casing the assailant harm.

I once saw a photo of the system being tested, and the flames were impressive to say the least. It would at the very least scare off the would be robber; at the very most cause 2nd degree burns and perhaps blindness.

I've seen the system your talking about Drdan....seems like they also had a system that shocked the driver's seat until the person vacated the vehicle. Both seemed to be impressive.....

Glad to know everyone's alright Brendan.....not to smart of a thief....never heard of a gun being one's backup to one's knife....maybe he was dyslexic? ;)

Was just getting a link to the automobile flamethrower It's from 1998.

Brendan, what's the current status on these?

Sound like a rough night for your friend, glad things didn't turn out any worse.

Found this along the way:

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - A South African radio reporter went a little more live than anticipated on Tuesday when he was mugged on air for his cellphone.

Regan Thaw of the Johannesburg area Talk Radio 702 was about to deliver an on-site report from a local squatter settlement when one of the locals pulled a gun on him.

"I asked him a question but got no response, I just heard shuffling and muffled voices in the background," said 702 news editor Katy Katopodis, who was on air with Thaw at the time.

"He had a gun held to his head and he was told 'give me your phone' ... (the man) threatened to kill Regan if he didn't hand over the phone and his belongings." Thaw complied and the show went on -- without his report...

What's next...on TV?

never seen one or heard of anyone I know having one !!

I have been in the UK for 3 years now so who knows ??

I want one of those anti-auto theft devices that I saw in a Arnold movie. It grabs the car thief, holds him in the seat, and sends a charge through him that turns him into a smoking skeleton.

But, as many times as I have gotten into my truck and forgotten to turn off the alarm, I would probably be the first one fried.

Brendan - be sure to tell Don about us givin' him a hero's welcome!

Glad to hear that your friend is alright, and he handled himself well.

PUnk who broke in seems to have some idea of old style edged combat, as that's often way guys would protect themselves if they jsut had short blade, and no shield, was to wrap forearm in some thick fabric, helped be able to block shots, and if skilled, can also be used to tangle opponents blade without allowing yourself to get hurt.

Also was interested at friends use of the spine. Don't think i ever woulda thought of that, but even without using the edge, would think an AK would be more damaging than most any other weapon I have, except for a gun.

I think it must have hurt so bad, he thought he WAS cut, and maybe used the cloth to bind his imagined wound!

Those torture knives do beg to be used.....

:D

EDIT: I was thinking too - my YCS torture knives ( 3 ) will really dish out some pain!!
