Rusty, I have no problem with you or anyone else wanting to do a freefall test on the AK. I just have one condition, I get to throw the thrower in after the knife. I am strongly betting that the AK will come out in better shape

I will be getting a Trailmaster in a couple of weeks and I should be getting my Busse BM this fall (hopefully). If you want to have a look at them that's cool. I'll drop you an email once I am finished with them. I might even be finished with the Ontario blades and the Sirupatis by then.

Cliff, actually the BM's are due to go out in the Fall of 2008. Not to long to wait for a good product.
 
By the way Rusty, you asked about my TUSK, I no longer have that. It was sent back to MD awhile ago for his inspection.

He can try with the 15" and 12" Sirupatis, Uncle Bill.

Far as the Ontarios, they have no soul to them. If there's anything usable left worth shipping back to me on those, fine. If not, it'll be worth it to me that Cliff posts what happened and how on the forum.
 
I have a feeling that the little Sirupatis will hold their own, Rusty, but just in case Cliff destroys them I'll send you replacements so don't worry.

The Ontario/Sirupati review :

has now been updated to include some slicing work.

Since you are ok with the toughness testing Rusty I will do it on the Ontarios first and based on those results you can decide what you want to see done on the Sirupatis. The Bolo and Survival will not come out overly well, I am expecting tip and gross blade failure as well as the blade being damaged badly on any tough material. The Raider may survive without harm but I would not bet on it. The Ontario khukuri should survive without harm because its simply a piece of 1/4" unground stock, it has the cross sectional area of a 1/2" flat ground blade. The handle will be its only weakpoint.

Should be an interesting test. My guess is the khukuri's are the tickest and most likely have the most lateral strength.

I was also interested in how the MD TUSK compares to the smaller khukuri's. This will probably have be estimated from the data.

Cliff: I'm going to send along a Bhojpure if you don't mind. You can either test it with the others, or wait and test it against an Ang Khola on it's own. I won't be able to get it out to you until next week, though, as Bhojpures haven't arrived yet (talked to Nepal today, though, and they are en route).
 
Cliff, I'm sold out of 18 inch AKs but maybe Cobalt will send you his to use in this new round of testing since the 18" AK has not been put to the test yet.

Bill, that would be no different than comparing it with the 20 incher. If you cannot really compare any of the tested knives with the 15 incher, the 18 incher is more overkill. Talk about unfair to the other knives.
 
Sorry, Cliff and Cobalt. I didn't meant to be unfair. The 18 incher is considerably lighter than your 20 incher, Cliff, and since it's not been tested I thought it might be a possiblilty.

Cliff can test it if he wishes, but it's still unfair to the other knives.
 
Cobalt, we absolutely do not want to be unfair. Whatever is deemed fair by Cliff or anybody else if fine by me.

Ironic that the fairness aspect was mentioned, I recieved an email about this very aspect yesterday. In short I will often compare very different knives to put performance evaluation into perspective.

Anyway, I finished up the toughness testing on the Ontario's yesterday.

Rusty, would you mind if I kept the Marine Raider Bowie until the Trailmaster from Cold Steel showed up? It would interesting to see how they compared. I can drop the rest of the knives in the mail on monday. Drop me an email about it.

In all fairness(hehe), even the 15 inch Ang Khola is an unfair comparison to the other knives. It is so much more sturdily built. Maybe the Battle Mistress will compare to it.
 
We shall see. I will have my BM hopefully this fall. Joe will probably be finished with my 15" AK by then so I can compare the two. Maybe the AK bowie and 18" Sal. style khukuris will start coming in as well. I might even have a 3V and Talonite blade at around the same time. Good times ahead.
