khukuri video

Okay, I like the control/lethal versions of the chosen techniques.

Here's some scenarios, hope none are too silly:

1. Things got bad and one guy has you around the body from behind, pinning yer arms (khuka may or may not be in yer hand), and another guy is lining up in front of you fer a bit of the old untraviolence.

2. Guy comes up to open window of car, looking for trouble or threatening with weapon, reaching in car. (You choose passenger or driver side encounter).

3. You are tackled from behind while walking in a secluded area, and you are pinned to the ground under the assainlant's weight. Khuk is not in hand, as this was not an expected encounter.

4. You are lost in the woods, and are attacked by a hungry large predator, Bear, Mtn Lion, wolves, whatever. It has been tracking you so you already have the khuk out in case of confrontation.

5. Any scenario in which you might use both hands on the khuk, and not necessarily on the handle.

6. Any scenario or technique in which the khuk particularly excels over other knives or weapons. What is the khuks combat forte, besides chopping?

7. Any reverse grip techniques?

I'm sure there are limitless variations, so choose the ones that come to your mind in such a scenario. #4 added to promote bear content in this thread.;)

Semper,

If I deny gravity, will I fly?

If a Marine defies gravity, will he?

Marines do the barely possible. Consistently. No one, by definition, does the impossible.

I believe positive thinking is essential in everything one does. It builds confidence and displaces fear. One has to believe in himself and his abilities.

Wouldn't you agree?

I am over 6 feet and weigh 270. I definitely can not fly. :D

We just finished the khkuri video.
I did it in my pajamas with my wife as the attacker.
(she has a black belt too, but her attacks are a little weak, she just wont hurt me unless i am looking at other girls)

there are some techniques we couldnt do because we need a cougar and a second attacker, but i will try to get these done this weekend if i can.

Semper,

I do agree. We both know about our abilities- because we have realistically tested them. We then have a realistic view of them. We have to- others rely on us. At close range, against a skilled attacker with a large drawn knife, a pistolero with holstered weapon will lose-

if he only relies on his sidearm.

Danny, I would like to see the video, but won't be attending the MKK. How would it be possible, if at all, to get a copy? I would be happy to cover any material, handling, shipping costs that might be involved.

Thanks.

at the moment, lets talk to nasty and see what he wants to do...

The video is a very amateur video.
I did it in my pajamas in the kitchen using my wife as a training partner.
However, I did try to give you guys alot of techniques to try out at the khonvention.
I hope you do try them out. dont try to remember them, just try them out.
I am going to the tokyo zoo tomorrow to try and fulfill ferrous wheels bear attack defense scenario.

We did alot of reverse grip stuff, some two handed stuff, defense against bayonet, punch, knife, stick and club.

If Takako feels like it maybe we can do some more stuff this weekend and I will ask the guys at the dojo if they want to do some cameo demos for you.

I think we may be able to make it about one hour long and jam-packed with techniques and basic principles.

It is cheaply produced, but I think and I hope you will see alot of good budo with the khukuri in there.

Here is my tentative plan:

At the moment, I plan to have it reviewed by a secret screener from the forum.
Then I will tweak it and send it to nasty who will be hosting the khonvention.
IF you cannot come and you want a copy, send a blank video and two dollars to nasty.
One dollar will go to ram (the poor guy in college), the other dollar will go to nasty for his time and effort in dubbing the tape.
(i get jack zip)
how does that sound ?

Sounds good, except stop trying to scare us by talking about the pajamas, OK?

Just a thought: would it be more practical to have Nasty buy a couple of extra blank tapes and charge a little more to cover that cost? Seems to me that we don't need to make the USPS richer by sending each tape twice. If this a hassle, forget it as a bad idea.

Thanks a lot.

Interesting exchange.

If he let you get "close" with your blade, he has already screwed up, and he's going to have to do more than merely "fast draw."

But what if there's smoke coming out of the muzzle of that holstered 1911 because he just double tapped you DCM with two +P+ JHP's?

Historically, the guys with the blades took on the conscripts with the rifles (all uncertain of their abilities), and the result was much more one-sided than Tom C depicted in The Last Samurai. Marines might have done -- oh - at least as well. :)

Yikes! Now don't get in any trouble, man...

The pajamas thing is kinda funny. Are they black pajamas?:)

Sounds like it was fun to make, too!

Keith

black, yes. and covered with 101 dalmations.
I got them for Christmas last year.
they are very comfortable.
Now, I am going to go to the dojo and get some demos done for you guys if I can this weekend, and those guys and I wil be wearing our traditional black gi(with 101 dalmations).
Very exciting, isnt it ?
I am going to focus on giving you as many different techniques and points of view as possible.

I hope you like it!

It sounds like the video might be the high point of the MKK Danny.

As a side note, simply *seeing* me in my pajamas would scare off many potential attackers...especially with a good case of bed head!

ps: Considering that 5th degree Danny might come and kick my butt if I am careless with the video, absolutely *no* copies will be made without *his* express direction...so please don't embarass yourself by asking me. I've given him my word, end of story.

Nasty, is there any way some copies could make it to the west coast convention? Danny's discretion of course!

Danny, I don't remember which post it was of yours, but you were talking about the realities of living off the beaten path in Japan. 4 years ago I spent a month working in a small town outside of Shizuoka. Myself and 4 other American's were the only caucasians to be found; on the surface I found the people to be polite ~ below the surface my feeling was that they would be more than happy if we would leave. I was followed through-out many of the stores that I would enter; more than once I heard "Gaijin on aisle 7" ( in Japanese of course). In Shizuoka I was in the Jo Shin (spic?) and I had sales people tell me not to touch the electronics, take the display (that another Japanese man was just handling) out of my hands and wipe it off. In Kyoto I was accused by a man in the street market of stealing his goods. When I refuted this he told me to buy something or leave.

On a brighter note, how do you like Mos Burgers? Yum! And Asahi Super dry by the pitcher can be a marvelous thing!:D

Out of respect for Danny & his wife, and the hard work they are
putting into this video we should consider sending him a copy
of any footage taken at the MWKK.

I hope the west coast knovention can get a copy too. My daughter is going to train with her Katana and will enjoy seeing some other MA scenario's by a good guy.

I think Danny should get an etched Bilton for his efforts.
