I posted this thread.http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=419746. I went back and said that the knife was just a chinese ripoff of an Applegate-Fairbairn. He said he bought it himself at a gun show for 180$ and it was Tony made. Tony Made are good knives.I told him he got beat .My God!!! what is Tony Made?!?! I told him I'd give him 20 for it. He laughed. I told him I was serious cuz he can't really be selling a 10$ knife for 200$. So he kicked me out with a few choice words infront of everyone. the thing is this guy knows alittle bit about knives and steel. and he also is full of shit too, but I let him yap. Anyway does anyone know what Tony made is. I gotta find something on here I can print out and take back to the store and show him to prove it.

You violated the number one rule - don't tell someone their knife is crap if they "know" it is not.

A quick google comes up with many potential "tony" knives. If it is a custom, finding the maker could be a pain. If it is a cheap chinese knife, ditto.

"I went back and said that the knife was just a chinese ripoff of an Applegate-Fairbairn."

From what I saw in the post you referenced and what I see here, you didn't have near enough experience or information to make that statement.
I've never heard of Tony Knives and the item is being sold from a pawn shop - but I don't know the names of every knifemaker and I have encountered fine cutlery at pawn shops.
It may well be Chinese - however based on your description and lack of pictures, neither I nor anyone on these forums could come to any firm conclusions.

I don't know why some people have to tell other's what there selling is way to much money. When I look at a item and find out it's more than I want to spend I hand it back and say..........."thank you very much"........ and keep my mouth shut.

If it is a $10 ripoff why in the world would you offer $20? I think I'd tell you to get out too.

jrc123, good for you trying to find out what's going on -- but don't get into arguments over it. The pawnshop is a business. You don't want to pay what he's asking, leave. Embarrasing him in front of his other customers is like taking money from him. He won't allow it. That's why he threw you out.

If this "Tony Knives" is some local knifemaker, we wouldn't know. The knife might even be halfway decent. Maybe Tony is putting one over on the locals, selling at inflated prices.

But for us to ID or analyze a knife, we need more information, starting with good closeup pictures.

And anyway, whatever you learn, don't go back and try to teach an old pawnbroiker how to run his business! :)

I'll try to take some pics of the knife with my girlfriends cell phone. the thing is is that they have all kinds of cold steel knives there brand new in the box and are selling them for atleast 20 bucks over the msrp. like the voyger 4'' tanto is being sold for 90 bucks. and the SRK for 130. and everyone seems to be misunderstanding me. I wasn't being rude to the guy. he was pressuring me to by the knife cuz it was the most expensive one there. and saying tony made was one of the best brands around. not THE best cuz Cold Steel is the best. HAHA. and there's a thread today about someone at a flea market and the guy telling him it's a 56 on the roswell scale. thats how this guy is.

Some dude named Tony put the knife together. That's what "Tony Made" means. That guy's an idiot.

Good Luck. I've never seen a cell phone pic that was little better than a blur.

I believe that you are missing the point. It's his store he can price his merchandise how ever he wants. Any one that is going to spend $200 on a knife should know what they are looking at and either buy it or not. It's not your place to be the replica police. Just don't buy anything from him. I hate arogant knife people wanting something for very little and running down other peoples stuff.

I have some Gerber MII's and display them at gun shows and the knife guys try to get them for 20-50 bucks and then get irare when I explain what they are, because they know what they are worth and just are trying to fleece a newby.

Rant over

When I was still collecting high-end wristwatches, I spent a lot of time dealing with pawnbrokers. I can honestly say, I never met a 'dumb' one. Try this little test: go into a pawnshop with a decent wristwatch and ask the pawnbroker how much he'll give you for it. I'll bet the answer will always be "How much do you WANT for it?"

all the money in the till would be a good line in reply :D ,
seceriously , dont buy knives form pawn brokers,,
they are cooks and forshure they will cheat you,,

if somebody is selling junk by all means tell them , why the hell not , if you see somebody pissing in an elivator beat them one,, and if you see somebody trying to cheat people , let them know what you think of it,
maybe you dont have to use the elivator but someone else will,, saem with the shoddy knife......

That's a pretty big generalization. Maybe that's how it works in your country, but here I have found most of them to be pretty decent business people. Yes there are a few crooks and cheats among them, but there are in EVERY business. But I agree - I wouldn't buy a knife from a pawnbroker unless _I_ knew EXACTLY what I was buying.
