This is my "fun" project. 3/16" 1084 from Aldos. I'm gonna send out for a differential HT at TruGrit and hopefully I can get a hamon. Still not sure about handle material but I'm leaning toward something natural. I was going for the 19th century slim bowie/fighter look. I'm open to suggestions and opinions guys. Thanks for looking!

How was grinding that swedge?

Looks like you kept it pretty symmetrical.

I can't really explain how I ground it but it just sorta comes naturally. I do all my work on a 1x42 without any jigs... All Freeland.

Freehand is more fun. I question whether a fellow who spends most of his time making jigs should really be called a knifemaker, since it's a different skill set. I could see if you're going to crank out a few hundred of the same pattern, but we're mostly about taking one knife from start to finish.

Got word from my HT guy. Differential is a go. Buffalo scales.

It might be hard to get a hamon from Aldo's 1084 with the high vanadium content. Please let us know how it goes though. Like the blade!

Couldn't get my hands on buffalo so I went with micarta.

You're coming a long way, friend. It's always great seeing the metamorphosis.

Good point. The grinds are getting better and better. It's great watching. CM, I'm glad you stuck with it. Your talent is really showing. Keep it up!

Joe

Your skills are improving at a very quick rate CM! Kudos!

Very nice CM! I can't wait to see the finished product. What kind of sheath are you thinking?

Lookin' real good CM,it ought to be sweet:thumbup:!I think Stag would have looked more natural though.;)

I'm thinking natural vegetable tanned tooling leather finished with a spray on olive oil to darken/distress it a bit.
