So, I thought it was high time I taught my child about woodcraft and the outdoors, and discussion came to fires, so I asked, "Do you know what tinder is?"

"Sure, dad, it's a dating app!"

:confused:

<Googles tinder, tappity tap>

:eek:

:hopelessness:

LOL hilarious! With apps like "plenty of fish" and "tinder" these days kids are prepared for survival ha.

Glad it raised a chuckle!

I feel like taking the iPad, burying it out somewhere, getting the pace counter out, compass, topo map, leave some cryptic instructions and saying, "go fetch"...

Can't find it? Good.

Nah, that's a bit extreme. But an exercise like that would be in the pipeline! But today opened my eyes more to what kids are exposed to today that we perhaps never were, and things we took for granted that they don't know about.

I feel partly responsible, you know, unfortunately, fuelling this mass/social media driven precocity.... I mean, when I were a wee lad.... iPads?

Would be parents, caveat emptor! :D

Yup. For them to have an ithingy you have to give them an ithingy. She wouldn't know tinder by name (the fire starting kind) but my kid knows that we make shavings and kindling before we start a fire! Put the electronic devices away parents! Get them doing actual things. Remember, you are in charge!

(good freaking luck)

My daughter is 11 she has a desktop, laptop, and phone and loves them. She makes her YouTube videos has her group chats with her friends etc. but she's like her dad and needs to unplug fairly frequently.

Quite prophetic Cray, but some do NOT parent this way!
I can't count the amount of homes I go into, HVAC, where the 7 year olds run the household. Very sad!!
