Just looking for info on these knives. Matsuda has a collaboration with SOG; a high end fighter. His grinds and heat treats seem to be very respected.

I believe their was some mention of his work over at the busse forum. Someone got one of his fighters and it sparked some contriversy of the use of the Talon Hole. happy hunting!

Very attractive looking knife. However I think SOG price is just rediculos - mine is almost same but I bought it between 500 and 600 at TAD Gear.

Also steel OU31 he use is need to be tested yet, I trace down to the source of that claims - steel test and found it bit unreliable. Can not provide link - I can not search this forums. But it was discussed before - OU31. It is C = 0.9 Cr =8.5 Mo=2 Co=3 but with 64HRC... I am going to test it eventually myself.

That would be me! Picked it up from the smith's own hands.

I brought it to Jerry's attention and he had a nice, quiet discussion with Kiku (at Blade '07).

Jerry says there is no problem and that's good enough for me. :)

The honorable Matsuda makes a nice knife. My middle daughter, the national gold medallist in TKD, just loves it...:D

Of course, I'll be very interested to see Nozh's tests.

Thank you Gentlemen; and beautiful pics. Very informative.

I ordered a Genbu yesterday, a 7 inch combat model with the mysterious hole in the tang. Does anyone have any observations on the use of the "hole"? Thanks, Cyril.

I ordered the knife four days ago and it arrived today. That's a pretty quick trip from Japan!

It's the Genbu model. It has Kiku’s famous multi ground 7 inch blade with recurved hollow ground belly and reinforced Hamaguri-ba grind tip and false edge on the back, with black contoured G-10 handle with finger hole and thumb notches on the blade tang.

I don't know what discussion there has been about the finger hole; but I can say it brings a new dimension to knife retention. At first, using the finger hole felt a little strange with the first joint of my forefinger protruding through the knife. Then it dawned on me: If I am in a serious confrontation, I'm not going to drop this knife, nor will I cut myself with it from losing my grip.

The kife balances at the finger hole. Wrist snaps are impressive, using the hole as a fulcrum point. It also works well in reverse grip; in this case, the little finger goes through the finger hole.

I have owned many custom knives. The fit and finish on the Genbu rivals the finest I have seen. It also receives high marks in the wow factor with the beautiful grind lines and the acid etch on the OU31 steel. It is also the absolute sharpest knife I have ever handled bar none. It is savagely sharp (hows that?); which is way above hair popping sharp.

I've read that a human hair can measure about 20 microns and that a blade can be honed to 1 micron.
