What exactly is this material and where can it be found?

I ordered one from a local ceramic supply.

They can be cut to fit with a tile saw (diamond blade) if you can't get the right size.

Made of some cast refractory material, very hard about 3/4" thick.
 
the shelving that went into my forge came from a potters market...

they have some pretty big pieces that are sold as scrap .. and it was cut with a diamond saw and assembled inside like a little dish.
