Howdy! I was wonderin if any of you know of any blades somewhat like the junglas that a 22 year old outa work knife addict can afford. Id love more than anthing to own an junglas but right now i just cant afford it :( I do alot of landscaping to try to make money while tryin to find a job but with bills and so on i cant seem to get the money. So any ideas on a heavy duty blade that can take some abuse thats under 100 bucks? Lol atleast i was able to buy my rc-4 when i had a job! Thanks!

There are a few out there. Try going a search for the requirements you seek. There is one that is my favorite. I want the Junglas too, so I feel your pain. Moose

or the rtak2, the kershaw outcast is a nice one its d2 steel and about 60 bucks.

RTAK II gets my vote. I have used all of the big choppers that usually get mentioned in the usual discussions and it beats the BK-9, RD9, FBM, Cold Steels, everything else I've tried. The only thing that I know can give it a run for its money is a good Khukri or the Junglas.

Edit to add: Did I mention a machete? If you want a big knife, nothing else will suffice. If you want a solid performer that not only doesn't hurt the wallet, but also works harder and more efficient than most "choppers", get a good machete.

Kabar heavy bowie, maybe. Run around $50. I have the short version with 7" blade. There is also one with 9-10" blade. Its done pretty well for me so far

Just hold onto your dollars for a while and save up for the Junglas. You'll be glad you did.

+1 on that.

If it is what you really want don't waste your money on something that you don't really want. Also if you think about it you could spend $80.00 on XYZ brand knife use it and break it. Now your out $80 & a knife where as with the Junglas if you can manage to break it it would be covered by the warranty.

If you are really set on getting a knife now I would recommend on of the Condors like the Kumunga or the Hudson Bay. Both are under $40.00, come with a decent sheath, and are great knives.

Just a curious observation, but I've seen an increasing number of threads with the theme of 'Post something like ESEE model X, but cheaper!'. Even if these aren't against the forum rules, I'd still think they are in bad taste to be posted in the ESEE forum. And I know the R.A.T. folks appreciate hard working tools of all brands, but there's a general forum for these sort of inquiries. Rant off.

As you noted, we have no problem with it. I think it gives the non-ESEE owner a good benchmark to compare other good blades. The way the knife industry works is almost no one is brand-specific loyal. Unless they're just nuts :D

Well I'm proud to say I'm NUTS!

Since I found ESEE knives and started buying them, I found myself comparing all my others knives to them and realizing the ESEE's had everything I wanted and the others lacked something. I have since sold off a lot of my other knives and am only keeping a select few non-ESEE's.

When you hold a good tool in your hand and there isn't anything you'd change about it, I'd say you're on to something.

To the OP, I agree with a few others here. Save your pennies and wait until you can afford a Junglas, you'll be glad you did.

Also, keep an eye on the exchange forum, I've seen a few great deals pop up on a used Junglas.

I have 3 favorites, Kabar, Becker and ESEE (ESKABAR!!!). I was going to post about the BK9, but I also thought it would be rude to go onto another makers forums and be like, "Buy this knife". I didn't figure anyone would have a problem with it. Moose

I'd opt for the BK 9 as well, however if you really want the Junglas -- just save for it. It is a great knife, and worth the saving time ;)

Condor Kumunga. You can find it online for about $25, which will allow you to keep saving for a Junglas without much difficulty. It's also a phenomenal chopping knife in its own right. :)

There are many substitutes but I doubt you'd be happy with anything less than the real thing.

Lets face it, you're looking for something LIKE a junglas. That means you want one anyways, so you'll end up getting it later.

And for a $100 or less? Might as well save the extra ~$75 and get the real deal ;)

I'll be saving my pennies alongside ya
