Serg: can't argue with you either! Looks like we're just placing more emphasis on different things.

Boxer93: Yes! But the paramilitary would need to have 2 important things for me to really buy in. First, it would need to have the compression lock, or something other than a liner lock (I didn't read the thread you referenced yet, but I think I remember Sal implying that it wasn't a liner lock). Second, the Military's horrendous blade-to-handle ratio needs to be improved. It would just irritate me to no end to be carrying around a 4.75" handle that only has a 3.25" blade in it!

My early style ATS-34 plain edge Military will accompany me on my upcoming cottage vacation and serve for all around lakefront "survival", kitchen duty, and comfortable carry with ultra easy deployment.

I sure like the Military.

Sal,
This is great to hear that the Military will have a new locking system. Not that I don't trust the old one...but something more secure would be ideal. So how does a compression lock system work? Do you have any pictures of it?
I used to own a Large Sebenza. Wow what a great piece of art and precision...but my Military kicked it's ass all the way(in edge holding and ease of sharpening, ease of diployment and grip, also not being a $350 investment like the Sebie). The military has such thin edge geometry and is one of the best slicers around.I believe right before the bevel of my Military is between .015-.020" I used my Ats-34 to gut and pound through the brisket of two deer last year. I was shocked that the knife could still shave afterward. If you don't own a military...you should really buy one, or three:)
Keep us posted on the new lock system PLEASE!!!
Thanks
Luke

Here is the picture what could explain you how Compression Lock works. This is Vesuvius however the operating principle is clearly visible and the same for all knives.

Serg,

I agree with your comments except I would ask anyone to try the Millie as an EDC- and I mean "every day - every where." The light slim design gets lost in your pocket - jeans, chinos, shorts, suit pants - no problem.

With the large spydie hole and no liners the Millie Rules for EDC utility and MBC defense!

I hope the coming of the Paramilitary continues the tradition.

Bill

Yep, I agree the Military is one of the really good crossover MBC/utility/survival folders. Bought mine when there was a great hype, some two years(?) ago, right here on the forums. It turned me onto Spyderco in general. I never looked back. I only replaced it with a shorter Lil' Temperance, which is quite reminiscent of the Millie.
