King of Nepal has surrendered absolute power.

They are going to have elections.

A little freedom brings hope and a light at the end of the tunnel... sure makes the heart beat regular... Imagine that... what will they think of next?

Witnesses said police used water cannons and baton charges to break up the demonstration after hundreds of sympathisers were arrested at dawn.

"We have reports that more than 600 pro-democracy activists have been arrested by the police, and they are continuing raids," Krishna Sitaula of Nepali Congress, the country’s largest party, told the Associated Press.

King Gyanendra ended 14 years of democratic government in Nepal when he took absolute power on February 1 last year. He claimed palace rule was necessary becuase of widespread corruption and a bloody uprising by rebels who want to replace the country's ancient monarchy with a socialist state. More than 12,000 people have died in anti-government violence in Nepal since 1996.

When only the Government is allowed to wield deadly force we get a police state... and that's no fun. The King has issued shoot to kill orders.

Today the Communists were fighting the police in Nepal, protesting, saying they would not accept the King's turn towards democracy.

That is news... they think Democracy is representative of evil Capitalism.

It would prove interesting to remove the brainwashing and twisted thinking and actually change their opinions. As we have seen with other cultures, that is a hard task indeed!
