I thought I'd go ahead and show this modification with a before and after. I'm not to sure what I think of it now that I have had it in my hand. I'm probably as much interested or more in the Inside the Belt sheath Jack is going to work up for it.

Anyway, I would appreciate hear opinions of why this might have been a bad idea or why you like it. Don't hold back.

I think that it looks great, Flatlander. That is the way it should have been made in the first place. I would assume that it is a lot more secure in the hand and would work better in cold weather.

It does look nice. Is that walnut you used for the scales? I like the look of the wood. Nice job, my friend. Jack

I just noticed that you called it "Kingwood". I'm not familiar with that species. Looks very much like walnut and I'm a walnut fan, for sure. Where does Kingwood come from?

Jack,

I think thats another name for Rosewood.

Kingwood comes from Brazil and it is in the Rosewood family I beleive. JB +1:thumbup: Its very oily and the sapwood is a little gummy on the sanding. This mod is growing on me. I was depressed because I allowed myself to nick the blade twice with the belt grinder. But I've come out of it and decided that if I really love this thing with Jack's new sheath...well I do another and do a better job. That said I'm done with Kingwood. I've got a few other scale to choose from:

See anything you guys think I ought to put on the top of the list. Next up is a standard 110 that I bought at LL Bean for Chuck Buck to sign. So I'm finially confident enough to do a swap on it and will use something to make it really stand out.

I tried one a while back with carbon fiber. I just wanted to utalize the factory sheath.

Heng Em,

Nice job...I like the carbon fiber scale. Did you use SS tubing or Nickel Silver? Mine is SS and it ate up some belts.

Jack, I know what you mean!! That's why its King's wood.

Nickle silver, definately a little easier to work with but I do prefer the way ss polishes more so than nickle silver.

Got Jack's sheath for my Kingwood Kaala. The inside the belt clip sheath turned out not to practical or safe for that matter so Jack fixed me up with a very nice western style belt sheet. I think it looks great!! Jack you da Leather Buck Man:thumbup::thumbup:

Very nice work Flatlander.I really like the wood it turned out great.
Nice work on the sheath as always Jack.

Every since I added the handles on my Kaala, I've been wondering what I would really do with it. After getting back from Jack's, it sat in the office next for my PC for a while. Then I handed it to the wife and said "use it in the kitchen" with lots of cautions about it being sharp. She wouldn't touch it (what is it with Gal's and those semi-dull kitchen knives).

So tonight, I decided it was going to be my Go-To Steak Knife...well pork tonight. And it does a damn fine job of it too.:D
