Kingwood Kaala

Every knife I buy, I wonder, "What's it good for?" Well, for cuttin', but how many cutters do you need? I think workin' over a steak is a fine use of a good knife. I can see the Kaala being a great little fishin' knife, too. Small game? Sure. Big game? Why not? It'll work. You need a knife, it'll work. Around my house, they all get their chance to "go out to supper".

I was showing some of my coffee drinking buddies the first Kaala I bought and a fellow who is a retired lineman for Public Service really liked it. I mean really liked it! So I sold it to him, for what I paid for it. He's an avid ice fisherman and said the chain was too cold, so he replaced it with an old shoe string from an old pair of boots. Didn't like the feel of the handle, so he wrapped it with black, electrical tape. He wears it every day and just, plumb loves it.

Kingwood comes from Brazil and it is in the Rosewood family I beleive. JB +1:thumbup: Its very oily and the sapwood is a little gummy on the sanding. This mod is growing on me. I was depressed because I allowed myself to nick the blade twice with the belt grinder. But I've come out of it and decided that if I really love this thing with Jack's new sheath...well I do another and do a better job. That said I'm done with Kingwood. I've got a few other scale to choose from:

See anything you guys think I ought to put on the top of the list. Next up is a standard 110 that I bought at LL Bean for Chuck Buck to sign. So I'm finially confident enough to do a swap on it and will use something to make it really stand out.

I dont think Ive ever seen a 110 with cocobola-looks great on the fixed blade, wonder how it would do on a 110?

Fritz,

This is my first mod on a 110. Seemed I thought a deep belly was a cool thing. That's coco scale.

That looks great especially for a first try-that deep belly is a different look-almost makes it looks like a different model. Nice work.

I would have thought it would have been a little lighter shade
Cool pics of the process as well.

Well I debated with myself about showing you guys this Kaala. Its is Jack's knife that I did for him. Its a poor job in that I nicked the blade and the wood cracked on me...very disappointed with the effort but I suppose I should show the good and bad. Jack was nice enough to take it in stride.

I do like the brass and ironwood as well as the 3 tube configuration.
Oh, and it got me back for nicking it. While in the vice, I managed to drag my hand across the tip of the knife. A nick for a nick I guess.
