Black pearl bolster and I believe sunspot scales with a1/8 paper micarta liner. AEB-L blade. I was originally making this for a coworker and some etchant got on the blade and etched a little bit underneath my logo. There were also a couple of scratch areas in the blade that I was worried about making the edge to thin to get them out. So (sadly) I'm keeping it for myself :-)! Thing is a slicer!

I really enjoyed working with the kirinite. It grinds very easily and seems like is less prone to burning compared to the micarta. I switched to a 36 grit belt on my three-quarter small wheel for getting the bulk of the handle work done and man that works so much faster than taking tiny bites with 120 or 220. Took it up to 2000 and even some hand sanding with whatever grit the pink polishing papers are. I think they are 3000? And whipped up an easy little block.

Great job on the knife. Looks really good!

Krinite isn't my choice for user handles, as it will dull quickly with use. It can be buffed back up with the polishing papers, but that is an annoyance. My favorite handle materials for these type blades is Micarta and G-10. They don't burn if you slow down the belt and finish by hand sanding.

What about stabilized wood like the burl handle in the background of the picture (I think it might be maple burl). Does it hold up well and keep its look? Or will it dull quickly too?

All stabilized wood handles will dull with use. It depends on how hard the wood is and how well it was finished. I find wood a bit quicker to re-finish. Also, krinite chips easily if dropped.

Well it's off to its new owner. I showed it to her including the small etched area under the logo and then I couldn't pry it back out of her hand :-).
