Kismet--I found a nice old hardcover copy of Ogden Nash's Versus from 1949 at a yard sale today for ten cents. One of the poems is "The Outcome of Mr. Macleod's Gratitude." Just wish I'd had it back when you were looking for the poem. Oh well.

Still a great find, Josh!!! :)

Don't think that we'll ever see a world where word-play was such fun, anymore.

Today, what passes for humor is so mean-spirited. It is mostly sarcasm and ridicule, not seeking joy. :(

Have fun with Ogden. Say hello for me.

(Edit: a sampling.

MAYBE YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU,
BUT LOOK WHAT HAPPENS
WHEN YOU LEAVE IT BEHIND

As American towns and cities I wander through,
One landmark is constant everywhere I roam;
The house that the Banker built in nineteen-two
Dim neo)n tells me is now a funeral home.
