I just completed a very satisfactory deal with Mr. Carson. Since we are both Kentuckians, I arranged to deliver my part of the deal in person. (In hopes of wheedling a shop tour out of him.) ;) Not only were all aspects of the deal very pleasant, but Kit very graciously humored me with a tour and some friendly chat. This, in spite of his being elbow deep in BLADE show preparations. This was my first experience with Kit, and in person, he exceeds his sterling reputation. Thank you, Sir! :)

Kit is a man anyone should be proud to call "friend". I have that honor.

Enjoyed your visit, MacHete. Glad you made it home safe.

All you other guys, Thanks. What you said means alot to me. See you at the Blade show.

Yeah, I know. I really didn't figure I'd be surprising anybody. :D ;)

I already posted but let me add this. I admired Kit's knives way back when the only magazine that had pics of his knives was Fighting Knives and they were advertised for $300. I still have the pics he used to send out instead of a brochure in the early 90's. I've been collecting knives since around 1973 when I bought my first wood handled 007 knife at Times Square and I have looked at custom makers the way baseball fans view Mickey Mantle or Ted Williams. While I never put another human being up on a pedastel, I do have heroes I admire in certain fields. Fast forward to the internet making the knife world mych smaller than it was. I had the pleasure of cyber-meeting Kit about 5 years ago and knew right away he was a regular guy and not someone who believed his own press. Through the last few years, I believe we've become good friends, last summer my wife and I had the pleasure of spending a day with Kit and family at their home and experience real hospitality.
My opinion has only gotten stronger. Kit is a regular guy who happens to make great knives, served his country for 25+ years with honor and lives by a code many in this country would do well to adopt.
He was listed in Blade last month as one of the 10 makers whose knives are most collectible according to the top purveyors. Without going back to the list to check I would say he also has the lowest prices of anyone else on the list. Kit has kept his prices down so that the average Joe could own and use one of his knives if they really wanted to. I know some will say $400 is alot of money but if you really wanted one that can be saved up pretty quick by not buying cheaper knives. He has kept his prices down even when lesser makers riding the waves of hype have raised theirs much higher than his. Integrity.
I have carried and used one of his model 4's for the last 3 years and it has done every job required of it. At the price of $425 I paid for it, carrying it everyday for 3 years works out to about 38 cents a day. And everytime I use it, it reminds me of my friend. To me that is what handmade knives are all about. I better stop before I singlehandedly swell his head:D

There are one or two other makers I feel as strongly about. Someday we'll have to do a thread about Ed Fowler.

Lifter- it ought not surprise you that Kit spoke highly of you (and several others) during my visit with him. A principle topic of conversation was the superior caliber of "knife people" in general, and members of these forums in particular. I consider that to be a heck of an endorsement from a man who's been watching the industry for a couple of generations. I'm not ashamed to describe meeting him as "heart-warming" and it was certainly an honor.
