I read Spark's post about Kit's passing in the announcement above with keen sadness. Somehow, it didn't seem right not having a thread in his name here in the Custom & Handmade forum--please forgive the redundancy.

His many innovations, his dedication to understanding what excellence means in both design and materials, his peerless dry wit, and his level, humble acceptance of life with all its challenges made him a very special human being in my mind. I will miss him--I do already.

Thanks for everything, Sergeant Major.

Kit was a great friend and confidant, he was a proud man and I loved him like a brother. We spoke often and very much enjoyed each others company. It broke my heart when I got the news and I will forever miss our long talks, solving the Worlds problems.

Arrangements have been made at Coffey and Chism Funeral Home in Vine Grove, KY. There will be visitation on Wednesday from 12-2 and a service at 2 pm EST. There will not be a burial, Kit wanted to be cremated. The address of the place is 769 Highland Ave., Vine Grove, KY, 40175, if anyone would like to send a card to his family.

Rest In Peace my friend, I love you, and may you be in a better place.... :(

So very sad and sorry to hear this, the knife community has lost a giant.
Very thoughtful of you to post a location to send condolences to his family, Dudley.

Damn, Kit was the best of the best. It's been a while since I spoke with Kit but we did exchange a few e-mails. What a loss to the knife world and his family. R.I.P., my friend.

Kit was a buddy of mine. Have known him for over 15 years. Spoke to him last year, he was very excited to be restoring a WWII vintage Willys. I used to work at Buck Knives for a short time in the late '90's and would talk to Kit about his knife designs. He has been in my permanent collection since that time, and I carried one of his precursors to the Model 4 in the early 90's. A few years ago, he put bolsters on a large Tanto Model 4 for me at a very reasonable price. Kit was an extremely talented designer, a top quality knife builder and just an all-around great guy.

The knife world and indeed the world at large is less fantastic for his loss. Condolences to his other friends and family. Smoke sent.

Best Regards

Steven Garsson

Kit has became legendary to knives. He impacted designs like few others could. I remember him from when I first started frequenting Bladeforums. He will be missed.
Rest In Peace Kit

I have collected Kit's folders and a fixed blade and always love his design. Sorry to hear that. Rest in peace.

I trying to build up some biographies, if anyone can tell me when Kit was born, where and some information from his early years, I'll write it up and post back here. Would be nice to have a complete picture of the man, who so many had great admiration and affection for.

Best Regards,

Steven Garsson

Sad news for sure. I liked Kit.

So sorry to hear this. I never got the chance to meet Kit but fully appreciated his work.
A true Icon of custom knives.

Steven , that Cj3b came out museum quality , Kit and I talked about it 10 days ago. In typical Kit style, it is the best restoration there is , better than new !!

The CRKT M-16 was the knife that turned me on into the world of knives. Kit Carson was probably the first knife make/designer I ever heard of. What a disappointment.

If I am not mistaken it was Kit Carson who invented flippers for knives??? Did he also invent the LAWKS feature on CRKT knives?

Thank You for bringing this up here.
He will be missed, he will be remembered.
