Kit knife blades

A friend of mine just gave me a knife kit that he had and never started (I think it is from Jantz). I was wondering are the blades heat treated? Do they need to be?

AFAIK every kit or blade blank from jantz is heat treated and ready to slap handles on...

Just try the unsharpened edge of the knife with a file. You will know for sure. Frank

Drop point hunter, not sure which model (will have to compare to their website pics) Cocobolo slabs. Going to give it a go and see how it turns out.

Yes, Jantz is reputable and their products should be good enough.

I've bought a few blades at gun shows and assembled them. It is a fun way to dabble with knives without having the equipment to grind and heat treat blades.
