Kit knife help?

So I've been building fixed blades for a while now, and while I'm not exactly an "expert" at it, I'd like to try my hand at a folder. I figure one of the best ways to do this is to buy a kit knife and build from there to learn the basics. Problem being, last time I ordered a kit knife, it sucked. So, are there any good brands out there that I should know about when searching for my next purchase?

Do you mean you've made the kits yourself?

If by this you mean did I buy the kit, do the assembly, and make the scales (basically that's all you're doing) yes.

Do I have pictures, no... My previous attempts had a flaw... well a couple of them. the biggest was I didn't use stabilized woods so my scales got messed up soon afterwards (just coating them with lacquers isn't enough)

I should warn you, I did fall for a few gotchas...
1. It's not as easy as it looks
2. Your first few may turn out looking like crap, Don't worry about it, everyone here will say keep going you'll get the hang of it...
3. It's addiction level is higher than you can imagine
