I would like to find a knifemaker who would be willing to put stainless steel bolsters onto 440C kitchen knife blanks for me as I want to do two - 6 or possibly 8 knife sets with stone handles for my son-in-laws for Christmas. I would be willing to pay cash or do a "barter" trade for stoneworks'. My shop is set up for working stone pretty much exclusively.

The reason I want to do this is I do not have a mill, metal grinding and forming equipment, power steel cutter, or drill stand and cutting the stainless to size, drilling with carbide bits, and proper pinning into 440C isn't really practical with hand tools....

PM me if you are willing to help with my project....

Thank you!

Okay gang - I did note I am willing to pay for this work! :D

Someone out there must be able to use some extra cash with the economy being so poor...

If not cash I can do some incredible stonework for some custom knives... Take a look at my album on my profile page or follow the link below to some of my custom works....

SS on SS bolsters are a PITA
i have tried 2 times and not got them to work and i bet theres alot of that going around

also i hope your plan is not full length bolsters (edge to spine ) as they are a pain to sharpen and end up gettign ground away so that sharpening can be done.
if just a half bolster that thats not bad (all that does is add weight to the knife)

not sure if this makes any sense as to why no response

Redrummd - I used to live out by you across the water from Seattle. I have to talk with a fellow tomorrow night that might be willing to do the work for you. Not sure if it's his deal, but I will ask. Hope you can find someone if not.

The bolsters will be on the first inch and end of the full tang to give me a blend line for the stone and to protect the stone. The blade edge on each knife is well below the tang so there will be no sharpening issue.

Adding weight to the knife is not an issue when you consider I am doing the scales in stone... ;)

I am looking at the PRESTIGE line in the Jantz catalog if you want to see the full tang shape.

Jarod,

That is what I want done. I just don't have the needed equipment for a one time project........

i might beable to work somthing out as i do work at a machen shop and the boss is cool with me working on my knives off the clock. send me an email with all the datails and we will see what i can do.

Redrummd - I spoke with my buddy tonight and he says he's definitely interested in trading some work. His name is Travis Daniel, he's the VP of the North Carolina Custom Knifemakers Guild, a fine knife maker and a heck of a nice guy. You can get his name and number from here:

http://ncknifeguild.org/members/

or at the bottom of any page on the website. I can tell you that he will not disappoint if you work together.

Take care,
Cap
