I never know if my Shop Talk peeps visit the Custom Handmade subforum... here is a pic of my first real kitchen knife made in my newly finished shop. A more detailed thread is here.

Looks great! I remember the thread in which many of us here admitted to not using our own knives in the kitchen or not even making kitchen knives. I was thinking of suggesting a build off.

That turned out excellent Rich, really like how the hamon showed up even without clay. Things like this are why I am starting to look over there a little more often can get kind of isolated over here if your not careful. 20-30 minutes at the forge man wish I could forge stuff that quick, it usually takes me that long just to get it straight :D

I hope the kitchen knives I am working on for the inlaws turn out half as good.

I think it was because I had an audience(my new neighbors). It kind of surprized me, too. Forging quickly and efficiently is important, though. The less heats the better. It took a lot of practice, blundered blades and anvil dings to get fast. The most important part is visualizing what you want to make and how to go about doing it. Forge it out in your mind first... then all you have to do is watch it happen with the hammer... well, mostly... Ha! Thanks, bud.
