Kitchen-specific Becker knives?

This needn't be answered until after SHOT, if ever, but will we be seeing any Becker Chef knives?

With most of the Becker Knife & Tool line being made in Oleans, NY and "The Joy of Cooking" being acclaimed as the book on American Cuisine, it just seems natural that a Becker-designed chef knife will be on the horizon.

And if there happens to be a limited-edition import one with Hitachi/YSS White Paper steel (like with the Necker), if its hardness could be around RC63-64 and its handle be octagonal, that'd be very nice, too.

I remember asking about this back in the Camillus days and Ethan said he had a design he was working on but then Camillus died shortly afterwards so I guess he's still got it amoungst the other TOP SECRET designs for sharp goodies. I really hope Ka-Bar produces every knife that Ethan designs.

Hey Thom...

I am working on a kitchen knife project and it is currently stalled, but I have hope, I have hope, I have hope !!!!....The current economic environment has many people reuctant to enthusiastically embrace big new projects....We are talking years, I fear---But it will happen, It will HAPPEN. IT WILL HAPPEN......!!!...

I really appreciate your interest and, you will hear any news here FIRST....

All best...

Guyon, Have you considered getting some sort of help? :D

Between the Beckers, your Buck 110's, SRKW, Busse's, and assortment of other brands, where do you keep 'em all? I'd have to keep 'em in my basement to keep my floors from sagging under the weight of all that steel :p

Great collection bro. I am truely jealous.

Guyon, you ever need for me to lighten your load (again), just say the word! :D

get in line friend, get in line... ;)

if your load is too heavy, Saint Bladite's Home for the Weary Becker is always ready for orphans.

Argh... I'll be happy to take any excess KNIVES off your hands! Nothing else!!!! :D You're starting to remind me of an old Burl Ive's song...

You mean ... I've been using a Machax in the kitchen all this time, and I'm not supposed to???

.

A Machax is perfectly acceptable, even at the table at black tie functions.

White tie, however, you'll need a Magnum Camp. :p

Guyon,

Those Magnum Campanions look stunning, but have more belly than I want on a knife. The belly on the main cooking knife should be smaller than the one I intend to give my guests.

I'm beginning to think this forum is going to be a lot of fun. Perhaps if Ethan puts out another cook book, he'll let forum members provide photos for the illustrations. :)

There it is, my favorite of the BK's. I bought mine nearly 10 years ago and I've used it hard. It's been with me in the swamps and rivers of eastern Texas and Louisiana, the Smokey Mtns, West Va and right here in the hills of southeastern Ohio.

I've used it to slice up and butcher, well, just about everything.

Nearly a decade of hard real-world use and it's still going strong. That relatively thin blade is much stronger than I would have ever guessed. It's hard for me to find any faults with the Magnum Camp.

If Ethen is ever able to bring back the Magnum Camp, I'd buy one or two. Loved the design and by the time I had the money they were gone. :( Got a used BK-9 from a friend years ago and convexed the edge on it. It's in a custom leather sheath in my kitchen knife drawer, gets used as a Chefs knife all the time and works great!! Though I with I also had a Magnum camp. ;)

BTW, I remember hearing that the origanel was discontinued do to poor sales. Maybe if we petition Kabar?

They make a short version of the BK7 called the Crewman.

I'd like to see a short Magnum Camp added to the line; a version with a blade about 6" long. It would be somewhat like a 21st century version of the old 'roach belly' trade knife.

The reason being the full size Magnum Camp is a great butcher knife and it's also long enough and tough enough to be used as a machete, but it's a little too long for detail work.

The Campanion is almost this, but not quite.

Wolf that isn't fair that you have them all. I would like to see a shorter apx 5" bucher or boning knife with a little flex. I think this will sell well. What do you think??
