Forrest Taylor Forrest Taylor For what it's worth, coming from someone not participating in this, I think the look of that sheath fits the look and appeal of that knife perfectly and I really like the looks of that knife you made. Kepharts are awesome and not supposed to be fancy.

It is my fault for starting it, so blame it on me.

I apologize to Forrest for creating this situation. I did not mean to criticize him or his entry.

I'll tell everyone what happened:
I got an email from a member who is not in this year's KITH. He had been in many previous KITHs, but declined to join this year. He made the comment that the sheath looked like an afterthought since the day before Forrest posted it on the KITH page, he had posted another Kephart in a much nicer tooled sheath. He posted another knife a week or so earlier that had another nicely tooled sheath. I sent Forrest a PM asking him about the difference. I really regret it now. Forrest took it as an insult by either me or the person questioning the sheath. That was not the case. I was just asking because I did see a big difference.

I'm asking everyone to please let this drop as a bad communication by internet, which can't convey any intent, and is often taken wrong.
Please stay in the KITH. I'll reach out to Forrest and Evan and ask them to stay.

This was my message to Forrest. I greatly regret he took it as my criticism of his sheath. I was saying I saw the difference in quality between the photos.
Forrest, I had a message from another person on Shop Talk who asked about your KITH entry. He pointed out you have posted a much nicer knife and sheath just the other day, and another nice knife and sheath a month or so ago. He commented that the KITH knife sheath looked like an afterthought. I looked at the photos and agree, the KITH sheath is a lot lower in quality than those on the others. Just wanted to get your thoughts.

I am sorry to disappoint anyone who was looking forward to the knife I made.
I was looking forward to this years kith as well setting aside a blade for the kith a few months in advance when I could afford to do so.
I have messaged Stacy E. Apelt - Bladesmith Stacy E. Apelt - Bladesmith with my thoughts and reasons as well as asked to have my name removed from the roster and will leave things at that.

this should not snowball just as was said by Stacy E. Apelt - Bladesmith Stacy E. Apelt - Bladesmith and I will be removing some of my comments above in the hopes that it wont do so.
those that are currently participating should stay and enjoy the kith and what everyone has to offer in it.

The rest of the KITH group will be notified tomorrow of their recipient. Any lastminute finishers need to post by midnight.
 
This whole ordeal is stupid. The rules say make a knife or other cutting tool that would normally sell in the $100-$200 range. Some people obviously went over that and now folks are turning their noses up at makers who kept it within the criteria.

I haven’t seen anything posted that I wouldn’t be happy to receive. If the quality needs to better then change the damn rules. I made a commitment and by God I’m going to send one of y’all the knife I made this year whether you think it’s good enough or not.

If I get thrown out of the KITH for this post I’ll give the knife away over in the general forum.

Edited to add: this post was slightly in good humor but I am getting a bit frustrated seeing people backing out.

I use a random number match program and let the computer match people.
