Woohoo! Received the knife crafted byMotorCityMike today. It is an awesome flipper with a titanium frame. I'm really impressed with the overall quality of the knife and the attention to detail he put into the construction and the beautiful grinds. Feels great in my hand and will definitely be a regular EDC for me.
Thank you Mike!
Thanks for the explanation, it makes sense as the decarbed part etches dull gray and makes it look more like San Mai. The darker scratches are where you ground through the decarb so they etched black.Thank you very much for your kind words!
The finish comes during the heat treatment. It's a combination of oxidation and etching.
Can't remember how or why I did it the first time but a hand sanded blade prior the quench gives this antique look (the lower the grit, the rougher it looks, this one was taken to 400grit). After the heat treatment, I do a convex grind and sand it to 400grit.
Finally, it's etched with ferric chloride which reveals the look (the freshly ground steels etches black and the rest looks antiqued).
It's a bit tricky because a small mistake on the grinder will take away the look from the rest of the grind.
Thanks man, I would be happy if you could provide me with a critical review, as some things could have been better in my opinion.

Would it not cut through the gristle?
