I have 11 spydercos, 6 are in my EDC rotation. I have been looking online at pics of the Kiwi. Anybody carry the Kiwi edc? It looks delicate but being a Spyderco I know that it is built well. I always edc two knives. One in pocket that is usually the smaller- smaller Bucks. The other is usually a larger folder clipped inside rfp.
You thoughts and experiences with the Kiwi would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I have a Kiwi in my EDC rotation, usually as backup to something a little larger (Tasman SE, Rescue, etc.).

The Kiwi brings something different to the table than other Spyders. Along with the Cricket, it's the most useful small knife I own. It is particularly good for use around non-knife people, who see it as "cute" rather than threatening. However, it fits my hand very well, and is as strong as its larger brethren.

I have "a few" of them, (check out the Kiwimania page). :D Great little knives, build quality is extremely good, on par with the best Spyderco has ever done. They are quite sturdy for their size. I can say I ever really abuse mine, but I would not hesitate to use one for SD if needed, and am confident it would do what needed to be done.

Despite it's small size, the Kiwi fits my hand perfectly. With my index finger in the choil, I get a rock solid 4 finger grip. There is even a bit of handle protruding beyond the heel of my hand. Also works well in a scalpel grip, with my index finger ahead of the jog in the spine, and my three other fingers behind the choil.

I generally carry something larger as well, but on days when I need to be more "PC", the Kiwi has been my sole carry.

Deacon,
Thanks for the info and pics. What kind of blade grind is on the Kiwi?
I'm guessing a flat grind.
Thanks,
Coop

ingeniously designed gents knife  for its diminutive size the 2.5mm thick blade is rather "robust" (as the Centofante3/4 has a 2mm thick blade) and it's "delicate" appearance is actually deceiving.....the Kiwi will not disappoint

Of course, if you have your heart set on a full flat grind and you're willing to pay the "my way" tax, ;) there's always the option of enlisting Tom Krein's help...

...he does fantastic work. :)

i tragically lost my jigged bone kiwi a few months ago, but that' s a different story.all i can tell you, is that it' s a really useful knife, especially the wharncliffe blade.

Great now I'm regretting getting rid of mine.

It's one of the great knives in it's size category (and the flat grind bumps it up a notch or two)

I love little wharncliffe blades, especially when carried as a compliment to a larger, curved blade. They're just so damn useful. IMO, a larger, curved blade and a small wharncliffe is a better combination than a large wharncliffe with a snaller curved blade. Every time I see a jigged bone Kiwi, I want to buy one. The only reason I never have is because there's no pocket clip. I'd love to have one, but wouldn't ever be carrying it.

As someone who feels the Kiwi looks and carries just fine without a clip, I've never done any research. But I think STR might be able to add one for you. The slight curvature of the bolsters and the limited area between the finger well and the lock release cut do make it challenging. Another case of having to decide if one wants something enough to pay the "my-way" tax.

I've EDC'ed a red bone Kiwi over the past year as back-up to various larger folders. I love it. Great ergonomics, wicked slicer, high quality fit-n-finish, and a reliable lock. An all around great little pocket knife.

I guess the best compliment I can give is that I bought a second red bone Kiwi. It's being kept NIB in case of emergency, as in I lose my EDC red bone Kiwi. :D

Got an older Williams and Henry small leather pocket clip pouch style sheath for my Kiwi and it works GREAT.
All you can see is the delicate black metal clip and the lanyard on the Kiwi, but is real easy in and out with the soft leather.

Kiwi is a wonderful piece that gives you a surgically precise blade with an adult sized grip that folds into almost nothing.

I have a jigged bone kiwi and like it a lot. I tend to carry it when I am dressed up but still want to have a pen knife with me. I do wish it had a better slip case. Mine is open topped with no tab etc, so it tends to slip out in my picket. I need to figure out a better case for it as without a slipcase, I am afraid it will fall out of my pocket when I am sitting.

This is what my Kiwi rides in. The small size is a perfect fit.

I have one of those too and it does hold a Kiwi nicely and protect it better than the stock slipcase. Only wish AGR also offered it in brown.

Generally though, since I mostly wear jeans, mine rides loose in my watch pocket. A Kiwi is the only thing I ever put in there, so never have to worry about it banging against anything else and in nearly five years I've never had one come even close to escaping from there.
