Kizer Begleiter defect

That's a bummer. I just got a drop point Begleiter from my wife for Christmas. Exceptional flipper and in terms of fit and finish seems to be a step above comparable ZTs. I really like it for the price point.

I'd just take the damm thing apart. They use torque screws and mine came with a baggie of about 6 extra screws in a couple different lengths. I don't think those are all for the pocket clip.

I'd go slow, pull up a YouTube video or two, see if anything made sense that was broken/bent and go from there. I bet that doing anything short of taking a rotary tool to it will be undetectable. Sucks to have to do it, for sure. I know my wife bought mine from Amazon, but in the future, I'm just going to have her contact a reputable dealer and buy from them in case of a defect.

Other than the worry of having to go through what you have had to, my knife is incredible.

Best of luck and I hope you get it worked out.

Good for you. What I said still stands. Kizer's service seems pretty decent relative to other companies I've had to contact over the years.

I'm sure some companies are better. Since you have such a strong opinion, I'm sure you have a list of such companies handy?
As you, my friend , this is only my opinion. My opinion works for me, I hope you don’t have car trouble 😉

I own one Kizer, a Kizer Horn. Love the blade profile in N690. No issues with that. But the liner lock interface with the blade tang was poor. A light to moderate spine wack would disengage the lock. I took it apart and observed the lock geometry with a loupe. I noticed some poor craftsmanship, not sure if it was a design or manufacturing deficiency. Either way, I made plans to alter the geometry of the lock interface, then changed my mind. I now treat it as a slip joint or rough equivalent. Still love the knife for its blade profile. A nice Wharncliffe.

@G. Scott H. Thnx for your response...yep, I was thinking that it probably has something to do with the detent ball.

They don't seem to want to repair this practically brand new knife. I understand that Kizer is a Chinese firm, but sending parts out to people when there's a serious issue like that seems like a cop out imho...

It's actually far beyond what most companies would be willing to do, and most of us would be pumped to have such beastly spare parts. Plus it might be an opening technique issue

Having taken apart my 30+ Kizers, and sometimes more than once, they all come apart and go back together again pretty easily. They haven't used permanent thread-locker in many years now. The only company that has been consistently easier for me is WE but only because they mostly use T8 hardware. Kizer still uses T6 hardware on a lot of models but I rarely have issues.

They used to only include spare hardware on premium models but I've been noticing it on more of their Vanguard models in the last year or so. Coincidentally, the only time I've ever stripped a screw was on a model that didn't come with spare hardware. As usual, they asked $5 shipping but then ended up sending me a complete set of replacement hardware for the knife. So that was cool.

Just want to provide an update (or epilogue) to this particular topic...Kizer sent me a replacement titanium Begleiter and the replacement functions fine. I did disassemble the problematic knife and noticed that the detent ball is located on a small plate attached to the lockbar. So I imagine that this is probably where the problem lies, in that the factory probably attached the wrong plate with the wrong detent ball.

In any case, I want to thank everyone again who contributed their thoughts here...it really is greatly appreciated !
