Kizer Corto vs PM2

The style, lock, material, looking, built, price, and origin of country are all significantly different. what to compare here? If you ask which one I prefer, it would be PM2 all day long.

I'll start by stating that haven't had any experience with Kizer products.
In looking at the Corto, I like the blade shape...and the fact that it isn't a flipper. The specs indicate that the blade length and overall weight are comparable to the PM2. The handle is shorter, which might be a concern for some people (I tend to find that knives in the 7.5-7.75" OAL range feel too small to me). I dislike the feel of the stock PM2 scales; and the cost of replacements puts it in another price range.

If I was in the market for another folder; I'd probably give the Corto some serious thought - especially if I could find a deep carry clip for it...but, given my reservations about the size, I'd likely pass on it unless I could find one to handle first.

No I dont but I have read about it including on the kizer subforum. Other than the blade steel, I like everything else of PM2 in this comparison, hence my preference.

PM2 will have better ergos, and for less cost than the Kizer, you can get the S110V version. The PM2 is the ultimate slicer as well.

Kizer is making some incredible knives with fit and finish right there with most Spydercos. That being said, the PM2 is an iconic standard bearer of mid-sized folding knives. I give the Kizer the edge in materials, fit and finish. The PM2 probably has the edge in ergos and slicing, although those criteria can be fairly subjective. The Spydie has the edge in deployment and lock up, so long as you get a specimen with zero or minimal blade play.

If I didn't have a PM2 I'd say unreservedly to get the PM2. There are so many things the knife gets right. If I already had a PM2 and was considering a second in ditfferent configuration, by all means, take the Kizer. Kizer is really shaking up the knife world with the quality/value they bring to play. You owe it to yourself to check one out.

One last comment, Kizer doesn't enforce a MAP so there are some outlets were you can get them at significant discount. Spyderco, not so. It's hard to walk away from a Spyderco purchase feeling like you got a deal, they're the same price everywhere. For me that takes some of the fun out of knife buying.

What ??? Are you saying you don't already have a PM2 !?!?

:p

Kidding, but it is a VERY popular knife for good reason. No hype to it, as it really is a great all around EDC.

Of course i have a PM2, just no Corto
! I was considering a 2nd PM2 or adding a Corto to my stable.

The epic reputation of the PM2 is for a reason.

It is a very nice knife indeed. I was just wondering if somebody could compare both knives.

I just bought Gary's Corto. It will be here tomorrow and I'll do a comparison for you.
I have a few Para 2s and am very familiar with them. I'm very curious about the Kizer and am looking forward to checking it out!

Well, there sure is a lot to like about the Corto: a full titanium framelock which runs on PB washers, a steel insert, a S35VN FFG Wharncliffe-ish blade, very lightweight and nice micarta inlays which can be replaced very easily for some custom material if one wants.
And it is common knowledge that Kizer knows how to make a knife....

I'd get the Corto. What does a second PM2 gain you? A duplicate/spare, maybe different scale colors/blade material? All rather minimal improvement to a collection. Adding the Corto is a different knife capable of different things with different pros/cons. Unless I had some issue with the PM2 that a second would fix I would rather the different knife of the Corto, plus the quality on Kizer has been impressive so it gets my vote.

If you have a PM2 then get the Corto. I have both and they are both part of my EDC rotation. I did a review of the cort on my youtube, link in my sig below for my channel. The Corto is a great slicer and very smooth. Love the size and it nails the blade to handle ratio.
