Years back, my father frequented a hardware store that sold Klien Tool knives. He, of course, bought me a couple. Not a big brand name, I know, but to tell the truth, they are quite good knives.

Now, I am wondering who made these knives for them? I'll assume that they don't own a knife factory so some other company must have made them. All that the blade says is Klein Tools Inc., Japan. Any clues?

I'm not sure who actually makes these knives, but Klein tools are the mainstay of the commercial electrical trade. They are made well, priced fairly, and guaranteed. Go to any construction site in the nation and see what the top electricians carry in their pouches. You'll see 99% Klein tools. Next time I'm at the supply store I'll inquire about their knives. I consider them to be equal to Buck in quality, and I've used both brands hard for many years.

I have one thats an all stainless lockback with a rosewood insert in the scales. It has a 3 1/2" drop point blade and I would almost swear it was made by Gerber some years ago. It is a well made knife but other then Klien Tool is unmarked so I don't even know the steel used.

I have that exact one. Nice isn't it?

ptpalpha, My father is an electrician and he loves Klein. Thanks for troubling yourself.

When I was 19 I worked as an electrician helper for about 6 months.I remember if you did'nt have a pair of Klein plyers you would be laughed at.I'm not sure who makes their knives but Camillus makes a lot of knives that go under different company names.

Disco-no trouble atall. And regarding the Klein side cutters, yep, they're the most useful tool in the world. Hammer, strippers, pliers, wrench-it's all there in the old "number nines"!
