I would like youe advice on the best klingspor belt the model number if you can and best all around grit to shape and work down before switching grits. I am using only stainless some 440 c but for the most part im making CPM154 blades from 1.5 inch flat ground stock. I have used the LS 300 series belts in the Jflex series and they are i believe a zirconia belt not bad but but dont last long. Then ive also used the CS411 belt i think they are a semi ceramic belt ive used lots of 60 and 80 grit and they are ok but, I think there has to be better. What im looking at getting are the CS631XF belt made by klingspor or the[ CS910y act ] i believe are both ceramic belts designed for stainless grinding. Also if i was to order 10 at a time what is the best grit to start grinding 60 or 80 . I know a 36 or 40grit will remove stock faster but i have to buy 10 at a time so I have been starting with 60 should i try a lower grit or just get a few lower grit ? Thanks kellyw

Give John Williams a call and ask him. He is the Klingspor rep who handles the knife guys. Not that it will help any, but tell him Stacy Apelt gave you his name. If he can't help you, he can switch you to the tech guys.

I bought some 36 grit for the first time and one look and I knew it would never touch steel, great for shaping handles. I think dont know that the steel will just strip the grit from the belt, its a mighty mound of sand and the scratches would be so deep that I would need to leave alot for the other belts anyway. Maybe for a really thick piece of steel but I start with a 60 and they remove alot of material really fast so I am happy.

Trugrit will sell you one belt at a time.

Patrick I think your right about the 36 grit im staying with 60 and better. I have found out one of the better belts klingspor makes is the CS612 a ceramic belt designed for stainless steel . They do make 2 better ones but they dont keep them in stock in north america but can be ordered in they are 8and 900 series belts but i was told they are very comparable to the 600 series. I do know one thing klingspor stands behind their product 110 % . Thanks Stacy, john is a real nice guy. kellyw

I use Klingspor 2" abrasive rolls to wrap my grinder wheel in, and I use 80 to do the primary bevel then go through the grits 150-220-320-400-600 and they work like a champ! last a long time too! 36-40 is REALLY GRITTY. I recommend starting with 80, 60 is still very FAST... just my .02

thanks jason . I find the 60 is best for me with cpm154 but ive got to watch or i have a hard time getting the deep scratches out with the hight grit. I find 440c is very easy to work but then it stands to reason and thats why cpm154 is a better steel with a better edge retension after heat treat. I dont like the way its so hard but im really happy with the final product of cpm154 . I just bought a couple pieces of s110v I think this will put me to the test.
