JFYI...My handle ideas come form many years of working with ergonomic shapes....I have designs I doodled in the early Ninties that follow the same lines as Old Number One...
It is based on the principal I call the "EGG". After spending a lot of time playing with shapes I decided that the part of the hand that forms the hollow is most comfortable when supported from the inside by an oblong "sphere"...my egg ...
I did not realize that khukuris used this same index for their handles until I actually had the chance to hold one (Last week,first time.)
Basically I have been trying to decide if canting the egg slightly forward is a stronger grip...or if a lying it slightly rear ward helps a blade sit in the palm better.
Many of the really great blades use this to advantage.
Unfortunately for most of us, the great blades are a thing of legend. I have only ever been able to look at them, either behind glass or in a book and guess.
BTW this is not my first experience where knowing Ed has made the comments fly.
