Absolutley love my Keshal Lal Village Utility Knife
– exactly what I wanted for all around use!

Arrived with a “villager sheath” ;)
1_HI_KLVUK.jpg
Blade thickness about 5/16 inch
2_HI_KLVUK.jpg
Weighs 17oz, overall 15+ inches long
3_HI_KLVUK.jpg
“Sweet spot” roughly same strike as
16oz hammer that I find comfortable
swinging repeatedly with accuracy
4_HI_KLVUK.jpg
Kami mark

VOIDing KLVUK warranty on 4” elm tree ;)

Brother-in-law chainsaw ran out of gas,
KLVUK to the rescue!!
7_HI_KLVUK_zps6cmzzy3i.jpg.html

Later in the kitchen . . .
Still original edge, NO sharpening yet!!
8_HI_KLVUK_zpscimipzpu.jpg.html

Slicing with convex edge I learned that
slanting blade slightly sideways cuts straighter.
Also rather than chopping downward, I started
tip on cutting board past the food and pulling
KLVUK towards me slices with “sweet spot”

This is a perfect mid-size 'starter' that I am
enjoying for variety of uses, and learning
khukri dynamics (& safety) while DOTD’g!

Thanks joeraz. I am one of many who loves the KLVUK. To me they are like the small camera or binoculars of kukris. You end up using them more often than you think you would over bigger and heavier options. A lot of bang for the buck too.

I still have the forge scale on mine, but been thinking of removing it...

Lots of love for the KLVUK around these parts. The first go to khukri for many, no matter how many others they have.

I took the scale off mine but I'm with kronckew, I'd probably leave it if I had it to do over. Course I might just get another one. Now that seems like the best plan right there.

Welcome Joeraz! KLVUK is a great knife. I think I have five of them. I lost count. One in the shop, one in the living room, one in bedroom, one...got the pic.;) I like the scale on them as well. makes them even more utility and less maintenance. You got a nice length to weight ratio as well. Very nice review btw!
Love the villager sheath as well. Thats funny I still use mine as well. They still hae the numbers on them. I thought about glassing over them with a belt loop. Maybe someday?

Thanks guys. I like forge scale too.
Main reason I took it off was Jeandrake's photo (below).
Figure if it doesn't stay black anyways, then go ahead and get patina started. . .

Please share your pics of well used klvuks?
I might just "need" another for scientific comparison :)

Thinking red-neck, perhaps duct-tape frog for that cardboard sheath . . .

I used cider vinegar after the scale on mine got worn out from constant use. To be honest I kinda miss the way it looked with the scale.

You got some real nice wood on that handle!

I also like the two-tone effect, but I find the patina and shiny edge to be enough contrast for me. My first one I ground off the scale and semi-polished it. It's not mirrored, but it's smooth and shiny. My second I tried vinegar and it worked like a charm. That one is my kitchen/inside KLVUK, and the other lives in my car in the kydex sheath I did for it.

I don't have one right now because I keep giving them away to impressed friends and family. Gonna have to remedy that...

That's happened to me 5 times now too. I do have my own finally and I'm not giving it up.

Handle grain was a pleasant surprise.
I'm thinking shiny edge for 2-tone contrast too.
But like stwm says it's sharp, might be awhile before needing to shine up the edge.

Oddly, I don't have one. I do though have an original VUK proposed by Bura and Uncle Bill. Slightly more refined but, not so much. The original and if I remember correctly is before the U.B. marking to verify the time frame.

Like to see BuraVUK, interesting piece of HIstory. Photo sometime?

Not a great picture, lighting blows at this time. Anyway 16" 18 ounce VUK by Bura. This is the predecessor, pre U.B. marked. The beginning I would guess for VUK's. An interest between U.B. and Bura in this case.
