KME Vs. Tormek Vs. Work Sharp Ken Onion Vs. Bench Grinder

could not find pic of hanger wire parking dohicky, looked using duckduckgo and in utube with string "kme stone holder parking hanger." no luck, sorry. Was reminde of content I leaned on though: KME excellent pre and post sale customer service both phone and email, Bladeforums, utube's- Dean O, KnifeKrazy, Pete from Cedric Ada, etc, Konstantin from Gritomatic, etc.
Enjoying our tools is a small joy, yet still, it makes me happy.

I know this is older, but I really like my Ken Onion Worksharp. It sharpens knives of any steel hardness really quickly. Won't last as long as a KME edge, but it will take much less time than the alternatives. Because I don't have a KME (but I've watched a lot of Cedric and Ada) I can't comment on this as a FACT but I suspect the KME gives about a 30% longer lasting edge but takes like 80%-150% longer to sharpen. Pete has mentioned that his sharpenings can take over an hour, sometimes much longer. Mine have never taken more than 15 minutes.

Again, the edges won't last as long. But there's no frustration or long timeframes with the KO.

I don't think the KME edge will last longer if you get a knife equally sharp on the KO. The trick is that there's more skill involved in getting the knife uber sharp on the KO, so Pete may not be getting the knives to the same initial sharpness. It's also possible to burn the edge with the KO if you're not careful, which would reduce edge retention.

One fellow on Youtube did a direct comparison of the two systems with identical knives, getting them to essentially the same sharpness (BESS tested) and the KO edge lasted a bit longer than the KME edge. It's a 4-part video series, so I hope you have a lot of free time. :)

That's really interesting.
