Kme?

All total I'm getting all 6 diamond stones, three ceramics, two Arkansas, and 5 strops plus the base, and the stone thickness compensator, and the emulsions for 425$ rough numbers

I keep saying this. Make your own system that accepts Edge Pro stones. Then grab a few diamond, and the Shapton, much better than the Chosera. Strops can be made very cheaply! You could honestly clamp a blade to a 2x4 piece of wood, tape the stones to a 5/16" or 3/8" wooden dowel rod & stand another piece of wood up with holes drilled for the rod. Go to town, and you would achieve the same results that the KME, Edge Pro, Wicked Edge or Hapstone will deliver. The secret lies in a consistent angle(which is easy), and the stones. I build one using 6061 t6 billet aluminum and 15-5 stainless steel. And used a 60lb neodymium magnet to hold the blades in place. And even all that cost me less than $60. And I use Shapton and diamond(only for the crazy steels. M4, S90v, S125v, etc). But the money is all in the stones. Not the machine.

I don't disagree that the money is in the stones I'm getting 11 stones plus five strops for only about 100$ more than what I could replace both my standard and diamond lansky sets (tend to wear them out rather quickly especially the standard I'm still on diamond kit one but it's about shot) and the strops for it plus a few other odd edgepro like systems I have tried and I believe I'm getting a far superior system. I maybe could have made it for less but I don't really have the tools or the time to figure out how

Well, it's your money....so, good luck. I'm just glad I fought myself to make things. I really like saving money. Especially when I can make something BETTER, for CHEAPER. Like a lot cheaper.

Totkst1, MILLIONS of sharpening systems sold so your not the only one to spend money on one. Myself included. Not all of us are tool makers. Enjoy your new system!!

Or free hand sharpen it's even cheaper. Perfect angles are over hyped anyways.

That is for sure true!!! Those big stones are sure nice to free hand on though..

That freehand stuff is a skill I probably will not master or even become remotely proficient with until I retire and that is 30+ more years minimum

Don't worry about it. You have purchased a nice system and will enjoy it. Got my KME over a year ago and really enjoy using it. I mainly use a Sharpmaker but the KME is great for reprofiling or for working on harder steel. Have fun and enjoy sharpening your knives my friend.

I'll bet it happens quicker than that. Once you've mastered your system it just becomes a natural next step to the sharpening addiction. Don't get me wrong I think systems are a great learning tool, I would never have learned how to sharpen without one.

It came in today and one of the guys at work gave me a cheap beater to sharpen at lunch. Man I love this thing

What surprised me the most is how well built it is and then I used it and am extremely surprised at how little effort it takes to get an edge. The lansky setup I have takes a bit more effort to get even remotely close to the same result as these stones
