Can anyone tell me what controller/motor combo Rob is using on the 3-hp variable speed package? The motor looks like a Leeson 3-hp TEFC (w/ 5/8" shaft) of some kind... but I can't figure out what variable freq controller he is using from the photo on his site. I was expecting to see a KBAC-29 similar to the KBAC-27D that he appears to be using on the 2-hp variable speed set-up.

I would like to purchase motor and controller locally if possible to save money if possible.

NOT KNOWING WHERE YOU ARE MAKES IT IS REAL DIFFICULT TO FIGURE OUT WHERE "LOCALLY IS"

Give a little, take a little Give nothing, ----

I don't think he's asking where to get one, so location or personal information have no real bearing on the topic. Some folks on here know me and know where I am, some do not. I don't think it makes my questions or answers less relevant, even if it bugs some people for not knowing.

It seems that a few folks are frustrated or offended when people don't give out all of their information around here. Requesting that info sometimes goes from a courteous "By the way..." to outright rude. We've been teaching people for the last 15 years not to put their personal info on the internet. Now, to go with whole generations of wary internet newcomers, we have identity theft on the rise and employers searching their workers, prospective workers and competition.

Hiding your personal information may come off as rude or thoughtless to some but to others it just makes sense. It's just like capitalizing all of the words in a post - to some people it just gets a point across or seems "normal", to others it's just yelling.

To the OP:
I don't know what controller comes with the 3HP model from Rob, sorry. I would just go with a 2HP motor and a KBAC-27D, especially since you're looking to save some money. I've never worked on a 3HP machine, but 1.5 and 2 have never given me problems, as long as I don't bear down on the platen with a full 6" of stock. The 2HP machine with the KBAC from Rob is plenty for just about any task.

If you find something that slows/stops the motor (I've done it once on a 2hp KMG w/VFD), just ease up on the pressure. Sometimes problems that we think require more power really just require more prowess.

Not sure what difference it makes, but if my location has some impact on the motor/controller combo that Rob uses on the 3-hp machine...
:p
Location is Everett, WA.

Thanks for the location, its always nice to know what section of world someone lives in. You made the comment that you hoped to pick one up locally, not knowing where you were limits my ability to suggest a source close to you.

I do not know the combo that Rob uses, but I do know that Dealers Electric http://dealerselectric.com/default.asp in N.J. ,YEA I KNOW it isn't locally but at least I tried, carries a large variety of controllers and motors and their prices, on the occasions I have purchased from them, have been very reasonable. If I stumble across a supplier in Seattle or Bellingham, I'll get back to you.
