I know that Bader sells a vertical billy roll platen and I just saw a horizontal model on a Burr King at Blade. Does anyone know if there are plans, etc for one for a KMG out there somewhere? I'm looking for a way to avoid buying a purpose built integral grinder.

I was begging Rob to build me a more versitile platen but it was a no go? Check out Ed Cafferys web site and look at his platen that Rob did for him. It is exactly what I was looking for but no luck. It is EXTREMELY versitile with the different wheel sizes.

What I am looking for is a platen like the modified small wheel attachment with height adjustable platen that Uncle Al uses on his integral grinder. You can't use that one on the KMG because the attachment would have to be either mounted at an angle or siting up on a pedestal. To my mind, the advantage of Uncle Al's fixture and the Burr King billy role is that they are both horizontal as opposed to the Bader billy roll which is vertically oriented. A couple of years ago, I hear that John Horrigan had built an integral grinding fixture, but I have never seen a pic of it.

Can you post photos or links to what you are describing? I am curious about it.
I am making a KMG clone that I want to make as flexible as possible
Thanks for the help

I couldn't find a pic of the Burr King version on their website. It may be too new, but they had one at Blade.

I have one for my Bader III. It's a valuble attachment, that is great for choils and other small radius areas.

Has anyone discussed this with Rob recently or was it a long time ago? I have found in dealing with Rob that you can't find too many people that are more helpful. Also, with as many grinders as he puts out and the popularity of this attachment, he many now be willing to make them.

I talked about this to the Bader guy at Wulf's Hammer In last summer and he was quite willing to sell me one for a KMG. We went over and looked at Wulf's KMG and he said that he could also make me a KMG tool arm for it with no problems or that (someone handier than me) could make one themselves easily. Total with one wheel would be about $250 if my memory is correct.

I've got his name and number written down at home. PM me if you'd like it.

Ed is getting ready to sell plans for his platen, contact him and he will tell you what is in the works.

You'll have to get the plans from Ed. I can tell you this. Its well worth getting;)

I have spoken with him many times about it. I myself do not have the ability to make one. That is why I asked Rob about a dozen times? Hopefully when Ed is ready someone will produce them!:D
