I finally got my clone mounted and wired last weekend.

She is a smooth operator. Totally quiet.

Thanks again to BF and Beuamont.

Nice!
If for some reason you don't like it, you can send it to me. I won't even charge you for the shipping... :D

I can't believe it's a clone. Very smooth looking piece of machinery. Can you please show the pictures of the bench and how the motor is mounted?

I have been wanting to make another grinder and a kmg clone would be sweet. i have a 5 hp motor for it and i would want a 14" or so contact wheel for it.

Are you sure that is a clone? :) Very well done sir, maybe you need to talk to Rob and start making them up there for all of the other Canadians. :)

One frikking picture? You build a badass grinder and you post ONE PICTURE!??!??! :D

Looks GREAT Patrick you will love it!

Patriqq, that looks first class. I don't know if I would paint it or just clearcoat it for rust protection. It is too nice to cover up.

First class work Patriqq

I especially like the way you mounted the motor under the work bench. It makes for a nice area to pile things like push sticks, the 9/16" wrench we always need, etc., etc. ;)

Very nice work !!

Thanks for the compliments.

I took more pics. My "bench" is just two sawhorses. The sub-base is just two pieces of 3/4" plywood glued together and fitted with T-nuts for the mounting bolts.

The pics are posted at:

Real nice, I made one afew months ago also. How does the belt track? Mine moves about 1/32 at the front contacxt wheel. Did you crown the pulley? If so what taper did you use? I crowned mine 1 1/2 degrees.

Great work on the new grinder. You will enjoy that for years to come. Rob should be flattered.

patriqq,

What would youestimate your cost for materials on this grinder to be? Just curious. Thanks!

Man, thats sweet Patriq. Now make knives for a while...

Bob-stk:

The tracking seems great. There is a slight bit of L/R play. I'm not sure how much of that is the belt, and how much is the machine.

Pulleys and wheels all came from Beaumont. The wheels (drive and tracking) are crowned.

Bruce: thank you sir.

Atama: I came up with an estimate when I first posted this grinder as a skeleton (no wheels or motor). My choices are full (12') lengths for $0.50 per pound, or cut-to-length for $2 per pound. [there isn't a good surplus yard around me... just mountains of twisted metal] I went with the latter. I bought some locally and some from Speedymetals.com. Steel alone added up to $3-400. Stuff from Beaumont was $4-500. Fasteners and do-dads were $100. I mainly did this for the experience, and to spread the cost out over several months.

Andy,

my KMG will be stuck making spikes, throwers, and stars for the summer. I'm swamped with orders. Hopefully I'll be able to start making cutlery in the fall. Thanks for the compliment.
