I took my KMG roller/platen assy. apart to clean it and I don't remember how it was from the factory. Should the platen be EVEN with the surface of the rollers or slightly elevated? :confused:Thanks Mike

Irun mine slightly evevated about 3/32" or so.Use a straight edge on the platen to get it even top and bottom.

You want it slightly elevated.

Hi Mike, good question. It really comes down to personal preferance. I set my platen so that it is perfectly in line with the rollers. For me, it runs quieter. But if I grind a long piece.. lengthwise (up and down) then the top roller ir prone to making a divot. For example: this is not an ideal set-up for tapering tangs...you'll get divots where you don't want them.

It's a very quick and simple adjustment..so don't hesitate to experiment to find what you like best.

I leave mine a little proud of the rollers too. What I really like is being able to square it up to the table! Dang that's nice.

I also leave mine just shy of proud from the rollers for most work, but I move it out even further at the top when grinding lengthwise on a tang such as Rob mentioned. It will build significantly more heat this way, and it may shorten your belt life if too proud, so I usually only adjust it this way for a specific step in my work.
